EXPERIENCE
Result oriented, customer focused individual with demonstrated Leadership and ex
cellent communication skills. Over 7 years of management experience in Software
Development Test and 7 years of hands-on experience in Software and Hardware Te
st.
July 2008 - April 2009 Senior Software Manager, Cable BU, Cisco Systems, San Jos
e, CA
Software Release/Platform Testing
o Managed planning and execution of major software releases for CMTS. CMTS is a
cable router that communicates with cable modem using Docsis protocol. Docsis 3.
0 is the next generation Docsis protocol that allows a cable modem to operate at
100 Mbps speed using advanced features like upstream channel bonding. Docsis 3.
0 also included major features like multicast, VoIP, IPv6, DHCP, Spectrum Manage
ment, Video Transport and Digital Set-Top Gateway. Prepared detailed test strate
gy based on PRD, software specifications, test planning, equipment/resources pla
nning, feature integration strategy and regression/automation strategy. Worked c
losely with cross-functional teams including Software, Hardware, Diagnostics and
EDVT. Completed all the release projects with high quality well before target s
chedules. Increased QA team efficiency and quality of results by driving expansi
on of automated test suites for these releases.
o Managed execution of MC20x20 Line card which is the next generation Cable line
cards with higher upstream and downstream ports density. This line card has 20
downstream ports and 20 upstream ports that allow cable operators to support tho
usands of cable modems to the cable router. Worked out detailed test strategies
based on PRD, hardware and software specifications, resources, test equipments,
Feature Integration strategy and automation/regression and stress and performanc
e.
Both Docsis3.0 and MC20x20 were large, complex and multi-million dollar revenue
generating projects for the Cable BU, giving Cisco an edge over it's all competi
tors in the Cable space.
o Demonstrated strong initiative in effecting change, defining new strategic ini
tiatives, influencing cross functionally, recognizing efforts and contributions,
creating and fostering a team environment while maintaining the organization's
customer focus.
o Hired and managed team of 20 people in India responsible for Certification, Au
tomation and Regression.
o Managed team of 5 people in China as part of Bighorn release planning and exec
ution.
August 2002-July 2008 Software Manager, Cable BU, Cisco Systems, San Jose
Platform Testing
o Managed execution of MC520U and MC520H which are the next generation Cable lin
e cards with higher upstream and downstream ports density. These line cards have
5 downstream ports and 20 upstream ports that allow cable operators to support
thousands of cable modems to the cable router. These line cards addressed Cable
space in both North American and European markets.
Worked out detailed test strategies based on PRD, hardware and software specific
ations, resources, test equipments, Feature Integration strategy and automation/
regression and stress and performance.
o Prepared test strategy for PRE1/PRE2 high end processor modules for uBR10k CM
TS system. The testing involved feature testing, feature integration testing, st
ress and performance.
o Established Stress/Performance and Large Scale Test processes in the Cable Tes
t group. My unique background of Hardware and Software testing enabled me to co
me up with testing strategies that uncovered hidden hardware and software issues
before a product ships to customer.
Software Release Testing
o Managed planning and execution of major software releases for CMTS. These rele
ases supported major software features like Spectrum management, High Availabili
ty, MPLS/VPN, Quality of Service, Packet Cable (voice over Cable), Fragmentation
, Concatenation, Payload Header Suppression, Gigabit Ethernet and encryption.
o Worked closely with cross-functional teams including Software, Hardware, Diagn
ostics and EDVT. Completed all the release projects with high quality well befor
e target schedules. Increased QA team efficiency and quality of results by drivi
ng expansion of automated test suites for these releases.
o Helped manage reproduction of critical customer issues reported from field and
drove them to resolution.
Certification Testing - P
roject Management
o Planned, scheduled, prioritized and drove certification activities at CableLab
s and tComLabs for different Cable products. CableLabs is the certification enti
ty for certifying different Cable vendors' products to Docsis, which is North Am
erican standard for Cable technology. tComLabs is the certification entity for c
ertifying different Cable vendors' products to Euro-Docsis, which is European st
andard for Cable technology.
o Certification testing was a challenging activity as it required submission of
multiple Cable products to CableLabs and tComlabs every three months with hard d
eadlines. The issues reported by both the Labs presented a great deal of challen
ge as they needed to be reproduced in the test environment of respective Lab and
resolved within two weeks of timeframe. This tested my ability to work under t
remendous pressure.
o Appealed to CableLabs and reversed its decision to fail qualification on five
submissions. This resulted in the savings in terms of high resubmission fees and
had a huge impact on the Business Unit's revenue as most of the cable operators
would not by any cable product which is not CableLabs certified.
Management
o Built and maintained the team of 10 talented people carefully screening intern
al and external candidates and rewarding them for their performance.
o Motivated team members by supporting them to enhance their professional career
by pursuing M.S., Ph D. and CCIE.
o Managed team of 15 people in India and China responsible for Certification, Au
tomation and Regression.
o Project managed certification activity for 5 years on more than 8 products inv
olving 7 different teams.

March 1998 - Dec 1999 Team Lead, Cable BU, Cisco Systems, San Jose
o Team Lead for Docsis 1.1 testing. Prepared detailed test strategy by going thr
ough the details of CableLabs' Docsis 1.1 specifications from CableLabs.
o Prepared test strategy and test plan for MC16S line card with 1 upstream and 6
downstreams. Prepared test strategy for GigE and Half Height GigE interfaces.
o Tested following network protocols:
TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, RIP, IGRP, DHCP, Multicast
August 1993 - March 1998 Hardware Test Engineer, Core BU, Cisco Systems, Inc., S
an Jose
o Established EDVT process for Hardware Testing in Cisco. EDVT process involved
testing Cisco platforms under extended temperature, voltage and frequencies.
o Prepared and executed EDVT test strategies and test plans for Cisco 7500, 7200
, 4100, 2000 platforms. These platforms included Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Gigabi
t, serial, token ring and ATM interfaces.
Jan 1992 - Nov 1992 AdvanTech Corporation, Fairfield, NJ
o Worked on integrating a PID controller for a boiler plant.
Aug 1985 - Dec 1989 Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd., Bharuch,
India
