PROFESSIONAL SYNOPSIS
======================
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, Bioengineering Lab, Piscataway, NJ (Jan 2006-Prese
nt)
Designed and built innovative non-destructive device to improve accuracy of resu
lts by obtaining local shear modulus, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio in add
ition to previously estimated global stiffness. Developed novel thermo-reversibl
e DNA hydrogel with dynamic stiffness that has greater capacity to alter propert
ies over traditional hydrogels. Established effects of underlying polymer substr
ate stiffness on fibroblast cell growth using biomedical/biomaterials engineerin
g and cell culture techniques.
Selected Contributions:
* Evaluated mechanical properties of soft polymers and hydrogels on micron scale
, utilizing LabVIEW, image processing of digital video, rheology and Instron and
MTS testing equipment.
* Developed Pro/E Wildfire & Solidworks models and performed finite element simu
lations using ANSYS and ANSYS Workbench to validate derived closed form equation
s.
* Served as Team Lead for design and development of new DNA-based biomaterials a
nd trained 4 research interns on all aspects of senior design project developmen
t and execution.
* Employed RIAS integrated administrative system to order and procure supplies f
or the various ongoing projects.
* Recognized as Subject Matter Expert within field, based on publication of 6 pe
er-reviewed journal articles and presentation of research at 8 significant confe
rence proceedings and symposia.
RESEARCH ENGINEER, Center for Biomechanics, Piscataway, NJ (March 2003-Dec 2005)
Designed and optimized orthopedic devices to understand the effects of bone plat
e stiffness on stress shielding. Utilized computational molecular dynamics to in
vestigate the role played by structural water on the intermolecular sliding betw
een collagen-like peptides in microfibrils under deformation. Concluded that str
uctural water acts as weak lubricant during axial stretching but acts exactly op
posite as glue during axial sliding and bending.
Selected Contributions:
* Evaluated and analyzed internal fracture fixation on intact and fractured bone
.
* Utilized molecular dynamics to model collagen-like peptides and derived the fo
rce-displacement curve of each deformation mode using CHARMM22 force field.
* Verified the molecular dynamics results by simulating behavior of collagen str
etching and bending using Finite Element Analysis software ABAQUS.
DESIGN ENGINEER, Structural Dynamics Group, BHEL R&D, India (Jan 1999-August 200
0)
Analyzed bearing pedestal of steam turbine via closed form solutions and finite
element analysis.
Selected Contributions:
* Reduced material cost while optimizing plate thickness to achieve effective tu
rbine function.
* Conducted cost analysis to identify most profitable, yet feasible, turbine des
ign.
