Summary:
Professor Syed Ahsanul Alam is the Chairman, Department of Marketing at the University of
Chittagong, the second largest public university of Bangladesh.
In November 2010 Prof.Alam has been appointed Director on board, Rupali Bank Limited by the
President, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh for a tenure of three years. Rupali Bank Ltd is one of the
largest public sector Bank in Bangladesh having over 500 brances at home and abroad.He is also
Chairman, Center for good governance, a research organization for policy reforms in Bangladesh.
He is a renowned policy analyst with expertise in Banking, Insurance & Governance.
He has first hand practical experience of working both as Chairman and Director of Corporate body
in the public and private sector of Bangladesh.He has been working as Chairman, Board of
Directors of Imperial Group since 2005.
Prof.Alam was Director on Board of Sadharon Bima Corporation, the largest General Insurance
Corporation in the Public sector of Bangladesh.
As a Marketing Specialist, he has over 23 years of hands-on professional experience of teaching,
research & administration. Lectured widely at various business schools including University of
Science & Technology, Open University Bangladesh, ABAC Thailand and also in Singapore and has
presented papers at National and International Seminars. Contributed articles to leading business
journals, editor of professional journals.
Possesses a superb representational, communication and negotiation skills and has in credit a
distinguished record of leadership in society and business arena.
Presently he is working as a Technocrat Nominated Director of Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, his immediate past administrative posts include Founding Vice-Rector IIBT
(Premier University), Treasurer, Student Council, USTC, Chittagong, Co-Ordinator of the Faculty of
Business, University of Science & Technology, Chittagong.
Traveled and stayed at length at Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Hongkong,
Philippines, Nepal, Myanmar and Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Syed Ahsanul Alam is presently, the Vice-President, Board of Civil Advisers in the Defence
Services Command and Staff College of Bangladesh.
Further he is the Vice-President of Chittagong University Marketing Association (CUMA), Chief
Advisor of Chittagong University Ex-Students Association- batch 83 (CUSAB), Vice-President Rotary
Club of Metropolitan Chittagong and Chairman Imperial foundation.
Born in Chittagong in 1959, he comes from a reputed family with an industrialist Father S. N. Alam
and physician mother Dr. Hosne Ara, former Director of health (GOB). Prof. Alam is happily married
with Dr. Sabina & is the father of one son Shaheer & daughter Neshmeen.
