Global manufacturer of electronic, electrical and fiber optic interconnection de
vices that serve the power, automotive, appliance, consumer electronics and tele
communications sectors.
Automation Development Engineer
Assumed a leadership role from Molex's Corporate Headquarters in advancing and m
aintaining Molex's worldwide automated assembly and machine vision technology to
the cutting edge.
* Results Award recipient for fiscal year 2002 for outstanding contribution deve
loping a unique manufacturing techniques for assembling microminiature component
s.
* Received PATENT award in 2004 for special design features on land grid array c
onnectors which significantly reduced time and materials to manufacture.
* Contributed to the increase of product sales by a minimum or $7 million annual
ly in 1991 from connectors manufactured on 22 assembly systems single handedly p
rocured, tested and delivered within a 1.5 year window. Achieved by procuring sy
stems from US vendors for overseas divisions. Tasks included preparing detailed
machine specifications, cost-justifications, sourcing vendors, purchasing, track
ing, and continuous technical communications between overseas entities and US ve
ndors. Conducted test runs for qualifying the equipment using SPC methods prior
to shipping.
* To avoid possible loss of customer, worked closely with two teams, solved proc
ess-related problems that saved $30 million per year in potential lost revenue,
and assured the business. Spearheaded a mission to Molex Shanghai to determine r
oot causes and provided technical solutions were implemented within three weeks.

* Saved millions of dollars by finding the highest quality, cost effective manuf
acturing and machine vision solutions by defining to the entities which systems
to standardize on purchasing. Conducted several benchmarking activities to deter
mine the best in class machine vision systems on the market for the price and ou
r applications. Developed standard proven approach for benchmarking, testing and
analysis method.
* Created manufacturability and process recipe solutions for a new type of produ
ct which later generated $2 to $3 million in annual revenues. Developed several
new and unique manufacturing solutions never before attempted for manufacturing
an LGA (Land Grid Array) socket with micro miniature, loose-piece, encapsulated
contacts. This needed unique solutions and new technologies to make the socket v
iable and manufactureable. Performed R&D. Conducted technology searches, vendor
searches, lab tests. Developed process elements and recipes for the manufacturin
g line.
* Conducted multiple assembly department development audits in worldwide Molex p
lants. Saved the divisions millions of dollars by recommending best practice sol
utions for deficient areas. Followed up until recommended actions were completed
.
* Increased Molex's overall productivity and quality by identifying best in clas
s assembly technologies. To this end, planned, coordinated, produced and hosted
two worldwide assembly development conferences in Japan and Lincoln NE where wor
ldwide Molex assembly experts presented and discussed their best assembly proces
s technologies developed and used in their entities. Championed the technology t
ransfers of the best assembly technologies and best practices to all entities in
need. Published the meeting minutes and followed up on all action items.
TAMPO TOOL INC., Schaumburg, IL 1988 to 1990
Leading manufacturer of custom pad printing and decorating equipment.
Engineering Manager
Headed a small Design Engineering department which designed custom pad printing
equipment for a large variety of applications including printing automotive dash
board knobs, Barbie doll faces, graduations on syringes, golf balls, etc.
* Developed new concepts and designs for high speed, state of the art, precision
parts handling and indexing systems for multicolor, "continuous" rotary printin
g applications. Mechanical drives with complicated gearing and belt drives were
used. Drives were inherent to those used on rotary printing and packaging machin
ery. The majority of equipment was custom designed, but standard printing equipm
ent was also developed. These precision machines print with a registration accur
acy of plus or minus .001 inch. Some examples of printing applications: Print gr
aduations on outer diameters of medical syringes at rate of 500/minute; print tw
o rows of golf balls two colors and separate balls into respective discharge chu
tes (balls numbered 1 through 4); Automotive dashboard knobs; taillight lenses;
Barbie doll faces; etc,
* Led the engineering team in development of several new printing equipment stan
dards, increasing overall sales by approximately 25%.
* Developed several custom equipment including large, complex, carousel-type pri
nting machines for decorating plastic Downy bottle necks for Procter and Gamble.
* Increased design process productivity 30% by setting up and transitioning the
design team from board design to AutoCad. Set up standards and procedures for us
e on CAD.

CRESTWOOD MACHINE COMPANY, Schaumburg, IL 1984 to 1988

Custom machine builder of cam-driven automatic assembly machines.
Project Leader
Developed machine and station concepts for machine designers within a project. M
anaged the projects and respective teams. Designed my own machines and machine s
tations as in parallel.
* Responsible for creating concepts, engineering layouts, details and parts list
s for large scale, one of a kind, automatic assembly machines. Supervised Detail
ers, Designers and other Engineers on projects which were under my jurisdiction.
Coordinated documentation package and monitored overall design process while ge
nerating my own machine design layouts and concepts. Also assisted in the develo
pment of lengthy project proposals, both written and pictorial.
* The majority of machine projects included the automatic assembly of electronic
components such as card edge connectors, switches, I.C. lead frames, etc. These
machines were mainly in line machines rather than indexed dial rotaries.
* The in line machines utilized "walking beam" devices, servo or cam driven, for
indexing piece parts through machine from point to point in an in line manner.
Cycle rates varied from 30 to 600 assembly cycles/minute, depending on type of p
roduct. Most mechanical motions were derived from rotary cams. The later project
s included development of the latest state of the art high speed terminal insert
ion machines ("stitchers") for a variety of electrical interconnect devices.
* Multi axis servo drives were later utilized for maximum flexibility and to min
imize set up time for various product sizes whose insertion patterns can be var
ied in any possible combinations
* Developed the first high-speed servo powered contact stitching machine.
* Developed standards and analytical methods for designing rotary mechanical cam
s.
