PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Northrop Grumman Ship Building , Pascagoula, MS. (May, 1999 to August, 2010)
ENGINEERING SPECIALIST
* Designed and implemented an FM approved 150 mph roof program - this has been i
mplemented on 28 buildings which covers about 1,700,000 square feet.
* Developed a process for removing roofing that has urethane foam sprayed on it
resulting in a 36% cost savings on the most recently awarded bid job.
* Project/Design engineer on an environmentally controlled combination blast cle
an/paint facility that is temperature and humidity controlled with VOC burnoff e
quipment, a compressed air station and automated blast/recovery equipment.
* Revised the ventilation scheme on blast/clean facilities to eliminate the seco
nd ventilation system with FM approval, resulting in a new design concept for th
e industry.
* Designed a portable cooling tower system for use with chillers on ships provid
ing a 30% cost reduction for a typical years operation.
* Generated plans and budget costs for facilities and equipment capital projects
.
* Managed/Designed the restoration of the shipyard for roofs, compressed air sys
tem, blast/clean paint facilities and other miscellaneous functions after hurric
ane Katrina.
* Developed specifications and mechanical equipment design to acquire a quality
chemical treatment vendor to eliminate monthly cleanings on 7 towers, stop scale
accumulation and corrosion on both open and closed water systems and track perf
ormance data on the internet.
* Revised HVAC system to bring a Physical Dimension Lab into compliance for temp
erature and humidity specifications.
* Retrofitted two Joy centrifugal compressors with AB, SLC 500 based controls to
improve efficiency, establish network communications and reduce downtime.
Electrosystems Inc , Ft. Deposit, AL. (Feb 1999 to May 1999)
MANUFACTURING ENGINEER
* Identified problems with PMGR motor starter for piston aircraft engines using
statistical analysis techniques to put the starter back in production.
* Reconfigured a fuel pump test stand to make it operational for production.
* Assembled and commissioned an automated engine starter test stand using existi
ng components thus eliminating the need to man the test equipment 24/7 during 10
00 start endurance tests.
* Designed a Sykorski helicopter jet fuel, cabin heater test system for producti
on.
Teledyne Continental Motors, Mobile, AL. (Oct 1980 to Feb 1999)
FACILITIES ENGINEER
* Utilized 6 sigma techniques on Quality Teams to resolve problems. Production s
olutions reduced scrap rates from 60% to less than 5% on connecting rod honing o
peration. In engine test, the reject rate was cut from 40% to less than 5% on f
uel injected engines.
* Applied Lean Manufacturing methods to analyze production problems and generate
design solutions. A prop governor test pad eliminated the 30% field failures a
nd led to production solutions in the assembly operation.
* Designed refrigeration system to simulate 0 F temperatures for engine compone
nt test stands.
* Designed engine test cells for piston, rotary and turboprop and regenerative g
as turbine engines. This included construction management, mechanical systems,
electrical controls and data acquisition systems.
* Designed a test stand for an engine coolant pump with a Labview based data acq
uisition system.
* Designed refrigerated coolant systems to support production machining operatio
ns.
* Designed a fuel pump test stand for a turboprop engine and built it locally fo
r an 80% cost savings.
* Designed a compressed air system and controls to support an FAA, compressor st
all test for a turboprop engine.
* Reconfigured HVAC systems in calibration labs to achieve FAA compliance.
* Redesigned instrumentation systems in engine test cells and wrote new calibrat
ion and maintenance routines to comply with FAA regulations.
* Retrofitted an existing boiler plant with AB SLC 500 controls and Labview data
acquisition.
* Designed and managed construction for a test facility to simulate 90K foot alt
itude conditions for piston and turbine engines. This included a custom chamber
, vacuum system, fuel system, cooling system to bring 1800 F exhaust to 70 F, a
- 70 F air supply, engine dynamometer, simulation system controls and engine
controls.
* Designed cooling system to eliminate chronic catastrophic air compressor failu
res.
* Designed and installed control system to eliminate chronic refrigeration compr
essor failures on Carrier, open drive compressors with an evaporative condenser
system.

General Motors, Detroit, MI.( June 1969 to Oct 1980 )

FACILITIES ENGINEER
* Designed production fixtures and shuttle equipment to feed production lines.
* Designed 480 V bus duct distribution systems for production welding areas to e
liminate downtime due to breaker trips.
* Redesigned a cooling water system for production welding equipment to reduce d
owntime, equipment cost and maintenance cost by over 60%.
* Designed a control system to eliminate chronic failures on Dunham Bush refrige
ration compressors.
* Designed a pneumatic controlled, automated paint booth in a floorpan productio
n line to eliminate two work stations.
* Managed the annual capital expenditure plan for facility and production equipm
ent upgrades.
* Managed a program to update 15 cranes in a Press plant to comply with OSHA sta
ndards.
* Developed a plan to inspect, test and document hoisting equipment.
* Developed database for reporting air and water Environmental compliance.
* Portable Tool Coordinator for Production, Maintenance and Skilled Trade groups
resulting in increased up time by over 50%.
* Worked as a coop student in most departments in the facility including: Toolin
g, Jig & Fixture, Composite Fixture, Maintenance, Accounting and Production Cont
rol.
