WORK HISTORY
TRINITY VIDEO COMMUNICATIONS, Louisville, KY 2008 - 2010
Audio-Video Systems Engineer
As the first degreed engineer on the staff I was hired to standardize the engine
ering processes and directly design the custom projects. Had to attain Top Secre
t clearance to gain access to some government facilities.
----------
IED (INNOVATIVE ELECTRONIC DESIGNS) Louisville, KY 1991 - 2008
Custom Software Engineering Manager
Founded in 1978, IED is an audio equipment manufacturer specializing in large, c
ustom audio systems for venues such as airports, convention centers, transit sys
tems and legislative bodies. The company's innovations have defined industry sta
ndards for many aspects of commercial audio applications, and its systems have r
epeatedly signaled industry breakthroughs.
I joined the company in 1991 as a Software Engineer and was promoted to my curre
nt position in 1996. In this capacity, serving essentially as a project engineer
, I have interfaced with systems consultants, venue managers, systems contractor
s, and venue systems operators. I have developed, specified, coded and maintaine
d custom Graphical User Interface (GUI) software, designed to provide operators
with the ability to control AV systems operations easily and precisely in their
own venue. In addition to developing the software on both the MS-DOS and Windows
platforms for the equipment IED manufactures, I have specified and developed bo
th hardware and software interfaces to third-party electronic equipment, such as
Crestron touch panels, mixers, projectors, and recorders, requiring system inte
gration. My projects have required travel to jobsites for testing, verifying sys
tem operations, and training of the end user. Some of my representative projects
include:
* DEUTCHER BUNDESTAG - New German Parliament Building, Bonn, Germany. Dual compu
ter interface to 300 microprocessor-based microphone stations, custom timing and
control software requiring dual computer operation enabling seamless transition
to the alternate computer in the event of an equipment failure.
* HONG KONG CONVENTION CENTER - Site of 1997 hand-over of Hong Kong to China. Co
nvention Center sound system GUI with custom interface to Crestron touch panels
enabling room combining, background music selection, volume control, and paging
throughout the venue. Presently working with Hong Kong contractor to expand the
system to accommodate an expansion to the convention center.
* ORANGE COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER, ORLANDO - Custom Multi-Processor sound system
with four user stations (control Computers) distributed throughout the building
. Includes paging, room-combining, scheduling and system monitor-test functions.
* WASHINGTON CONVENTION CENTER - Washington DC - Over 200 room and patch-point d
igital Audio routing system for room combining, paging and integrated system tes
ting and verification of operation. The custom PC-based GUI integrates and commu
nicates with over 80 sets of Crestron touch panels and audio auto-mixers assigne
d to each meeting room and exhibit area. It also communicates and controls 13 di
gital processor boxes and the paging system.
* US CAPITOL HILL CAMPUS-WIDE PAGING SYSTEM - Touch panel based zoned paging sys
tem covering the entire Capitol Hill campus of 25 buildings with future expansio
n to cover the Library of Congress and Supreme Court buildings. System permits p
aging to any or all buildings in the complex via either dedicated paging speaker
s or the Capital Hill Police's private, zoned radio system, utilizing either a l
ive microphone, automatic, or scheduled playback of prerecorded messages.
----------
ANCHA ELECTRONICS (NOW AVI-SPL)(Rolling Meadows, IL) 1986 - 1991
Senior Project Engineer
ANCHA ELECTRONICS has long been known for its custom audio and visual installati
ons. The company merged in 2000 with SPL after the retirement of founder, Bob An
cha. Today this combined enterprise specializes in corporate boardroom and video
conferencing installations. Much of my work contributed to ANCHA ELECTRONICS' vi
ability as a merger candidate. As project engineer I designed and prepared the f
abrication drawings for a wide variety of AV system projects, using the computer
drafting package, AutoCAD. I also designed and programmed any custom software r
equired to control user interface devices. Some of my representative projects in
cluded:
* O'HARE AIRPORT, Chicago - Paging system for United Airlines Terminal One. Cust
om electronic hardware design, fabrication and installation drawings, end user t
raining and troubleshooting.
* AT&T PRODUCT SHOWCASE THEATER LISLE, IL - Project engineering, drawings, and s
oftware design for their Product Showcase Theater, a multi-projector (slide & vi
deo) theater utilizing multiple computer-controlled video laser disk players, CD
, lighting, MIDI and mechanical systems. Included the development of a scripting
language for user programming of their presentations.
* MONSANTO CORPORATION, St. Louis - Project Engineer for new boardroom. Computer
interface for video projectors, slide projectors, program and 25 microphone tel
econference system.

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, KRANNERT CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (Urbana, IL)
1974 - 1986
Audio Director
The venue for the KRANNERT CENTER is a five theater performing arts complex with
a 2100 seat concert hall, two proscenium theaters, a "black box" theater and an
outside amphitheater. Responsibilities included technical consulting, education
, and supervision of others involved in technical operations. I also recorded li
ve concerts, opera and stage presentations for broadcast, archival and education
al use; interfaced with touring artists, selected, installed, operated and maint
ained audio equipment; designed curricula and taught formal courses in Theater S
ound (TH331) and Stage Electronics (TH225) in my capacity of assistant professor
in the Theater Department; and supervised student and IATSE crews for audio loa
d-in, operation and load-out for all productions at the Center.
OTHER EXPERIENCE
CONSULTATION: Consulted and designed the audio systems for the new multi-theater
performing arts center at Marshall University, Huntington, WV. Working with Ken
tucky Country Day School on the sound system for their new theater that opened O
ctober 2010.
COTTAGE BUSINESS: While I was at the University of Illinois in the mid 1980's an
d earning my Master's degree in Computer Science, I developed a PC-based compute
r program to handle all the people scheduling for lay participants at church ser
vices. This product has developed and evolved over the years to the extent that
I now have over 1300 churches using this program for scheduling people. After tw
enty years of evolving my program from DOS to Windows and supporting my customer
s, Parish Data System, a church software house, purchased the rights to my packa
ge and is including it in the next release of their church management package.
EARLIER BACKGROUND:
* Graduate Assistantship in Speech Clinic, MARSHALL UNIVERSITY: Repaired and cal
ibrated a variety of hearing measurement equipment used for clinical work. The c
alibration had to be traceable to the U.S. Bureau of Standards in the event of p
roceedings regarding hearing injury claims.
* Undergraduate Assistantship in AV Center, MONTCLAIR STATE COLLEGE: Performed a
ll AV presentation duties, including operating projectors, TV cameras and switch
ers, and PA systems campus-wide.
* High school and college: Worked as repair technician at small local TV repair
shop, performing both shop and field service call repairs of consumer electronic
s products down to the component level.
