CAREER SUMMARY
Extensive, comprehensive, and diverse experience developing, implementing, and e
xecuting safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health, fire/life safety, radi
ation safety, environmental health, ergonomic, hazardous material/waste, emergen
cy preparedness and response programs, contract project management, and field se
rvices. Utilized proven leadership abilities to motivate and cultivate personal
relationships among all management levels in the achievement of positive safety
attitudes, behaviors, and culture culminating in excellence.
Program Management: Managed a full-range of safety, occupational health, environ
mental health, fire/life safety, radiation safety, hazardous materials, hazardou
s and medical waste programs in accordance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, NRC, JCAHO, CDP
HE, and local regulations.
Significant Accomplishments:
* Developed, implemented, and executed a comprehensive occupational health and s
afety training program for the Information Technology Division to meet IG findin
gs and recommendations.
* Developed, implemented, and executed a comprehensive CBRNE, PPE, and DECON tra
ining program for our 160 resident law enforcement officers, saving the Board on
external contracting for this training at a cost of $200 per officer.
* Wrote program documents for medical surveillance, hazard communication, hazard
ous energy, respiratory protection, confined space entry, ergonomics, hazardous
material and waste management and accident investigation and reporting programs
where such programs did not exist.
* Developed, implemented and executed a comprehensive Lyme disease educational p
rogram educating over 2000 military, civilian, and private sector employees. Bec
ame a subject matter expect and sought after speaker. Published, authored, and
co-authored 5 articles about Lyme disease.
* Developed 12 on-line occupational health and safety training programs to facil
itate the training and education of managers, supervisors, and employees. Recei
ved overwhelming positive reviews and feedback from colleagues, supervisors, and
employees.
* Developed an Ergonomic Educational Program to educate and train employees on a
ppropriate office ergonomic work station set-up. Evaluated and educated approxi
mately 130 employees annually.
* Developed an Ergonomics Work Station Set-up Guide to educate employees and adm
inistrative staff on appropriate and correct work station set-up. Received posi
tive reviews and feedback from employees.
Contract Project Management: Manage the coordination, scheduling, and executio
n of contractual services to augment our occupational safety and health program
elements, goals, and objectives. Responsibilities included: developing and manag
ing external contracts for occupational safety, health, and environmental servic
es, contractor supervision, task order development, budgeting, and fiscal tracki
ng.
Significant Accomplishment:
* Assumed responsibility, manage, and oversaw all aspects of the Applied Environ
mental contract valued at over $500,000.
* Took over and revived the General Services Administration (GSA) asbestos build
ing contract valued at $750,000. Interacted with the customer to correct numero
us building asbestos profile deficiencies and meet customer expectations.
* Intervened and stopped a window washing contractor operation after observing a
n unsafe imminent danger that potentially could have resulted in a fatality.
* Initiated and inserted prudent contractor safety language in all contracts. To
ok the lead to review and evaluate contractor safety requirements to eliminate p
otential risk to the Board.
Field Services: Manage the coordination, scheduling, implementation, execution,
and evaluation of field environmental health, industrial hygiene, and environme
ntal services in a variety of occupational environments. Responsibilities includ
ed: occupational safety, environmental, emergency preparedness, fire safety, haz
ardous materials and waste management; water quality management; asbestos abatem
ent oversight; workplace health hazard, evaluation, and control assessments; wor
kplace exposure profiles; accident prevention and investigation, health and safe
ty program development and audits; exposure assessments; indoor air quality inve
stigations; personal, area, and environmental monitoring/sampling; interpreting
and applying occupational, environmental, and safety regulations (e.g. OSHA, EPA
, and NFPA); compliance training; developing and conducting occupational health
seminars; and detailed report writing.
Significant Accomplishment:
* Saved the taxpayer $149,000 in hazardous waste disposal costs utilizing my edu
cation and experience, over a contractor, to segregate and bulk hazardous waste
over the more expensive lab packing method.
* Assumed Board responsibilities in the management of the hazardous, medical, an
d universal waste eliminating the need for an external hazardous waste contracto
r saving the Board $12,000 annually.
* Initiated an IAQ study to evaluate a HVAC UV disinfection system against biolo
gical warfare agent threats.
* Researched and procured a fluorescent light bulb crusher reducing the volume o
f spent bulbs and storage required for this waste stream.
