Changing electronic gadgets with wired chargers can be inconvenient at times. Therefore, in recent years, people have started adopting wircless technologies due to their convenience and simplicity. With various developments in wireless charging, or wireless power transfer (WPT), it ie slowly becoming mainstream. Recently, Microchip and Renesas released their Qi 1.3-certified reference designs for 13 W in-cabin automotive wireless charging solutions. These reference designs will help designers to build secure Qi-compliant automotive-grade wireless chargers. The new wireless transmitter reference designs are Qi-compliant and automotive-grade. Sccurity and safety arc crucial aspects of automotive grade chargers, as a poorly designed charger can create a direct concem for the whole vehicle. Therefore, cryptographic authentication is an essential addition to the Qi standard, implementing, trust between the phone and the charger. The design complies with the Rr cr ae ASIL (Automotive Safety In-Cabin Automotive Wireless Charging Stations Integrity Leve) BS. The ASIL. compliance is necessary for automotive chargers as the electric vehicles now have high- voltage power buses and high- energy batterice. Poorly functioning, chargere can impact vehicle electronics and can be inherently dangerous. Moreover, the transmitter can be controlled and monitored in real-time by a graphical user interface (GLl) that provides data on selected coils, transmission status, input voltage, output current, power, and bridge voltage. The GLI also adds flexibility in terms of programming and firmware changes. Minimizing, Stepper Motor Noise and Vibration in Ps Motion Control Applications Stepper motors work well in a wide range of applications but can struggle with torque ripple and current distortion issues. Learn about QuictStep, a proprictary algorithm from Allegro MicroSystems, as a possible solution. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) current control is the most common way to drive a stepper. Eby implementing current control, the controller PWM chops the output, limiting the current in cach winding, to maintain a ratio that defines the rotor position. [he nature of PWM current control results in current ripple based on the applied duty cycle, the inductance of the motor and the voltage across it. To minimize ripple, the controller can manage how the current decreases in the windings by implementing various decay modes. QuictStep technology uses 2 proprictary algorithm that dynamically adusts (up o down) the percent of fast decay needed on a cycle-by-cycle basis to achieve the best possible performance under all operating conditions without using complex software. The algorithm reverses the traditional approach to mixed decay by implementing, slow decay fret, followed by Fast decay. Quict Step automatically adjusts the ratio of fast and slow decay to minimize current ripple while maintaining accurate current regulation. Fast decay is introduced only when required for current regulation, resulting in the lowest possible ripple current. QuietStep technology climinates these effects by cutting ripple current in half when compared with mixed decay. When cusrent is increasing, QuictStcp maintains current tegdation down to mo amperes. Reducing eystemlevel current ripple and resonance minimizes vibration as well as audible noise caused by vibration. The result is better video imaging in CCTV systems and superior print quality in 3D printers. Reducing audible noise and vibration enhances nearly every motor control application, from home automation door locks and valve control to precision vision systems and 3D printing, Protecting 5G Macro Base Station Avnplifiers and Antennas from Electrical Hazards This article dives into protecting tower-mounted amplifiers and advanced antenna systems of 5G macro base stations from electrical hazarde.f Jectronics design engineers need to protect their 5G infrastructure designs by developing circuits that protect against five sources of electrical hazards that affect the reliability and the lifetime of their equipment. The base station connects the core network to the individual mobile phones and other wireless devices such as watches, tablets, and JoT devices via both transmission and reception. Baseband information is modulated and transmitted to mobile devices; and, mobile device transmissions are received, demodulated, and transmitted to the wireline infrastructure. All the elements that make up a base station and the recommended protection, control and sensing components that protect and improve the efficiency of the base station circuits. Figure Macro base. station with an advanced antenna array The surge protection device interfaces with the AC poner line and is subject to transients inherent in the AC power line,A, surge suppression fuse on the input of the surge protection circuit is recommended. This type of fuse can withstand a lightning surge up to 200 kA based on transient surges defined in (JL 1449 and EC 61000-4- 5. This fuse also acts to provide current limiting protection under short circuit conditions Following the surge suppression fuse, consider using a series combination of a metal oxide varistor (MOV) and a gas discharge tube (GDT) to absorb the lightning strike and other large transients arising from load changes that occur on the power linePlace the MOV-GDT combination as close to the inputas possible to minimize the transient propagation into the circuit. Connect the MOY between [Line and Neutral and connect the gas discharge device from neutral to ground Additionally, a high. power transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode is an altemative toa MOY if the TVS diode’s maxinum surge handling capacity is adequate for the AC. powerline feed. TVS diodes have faster Tesponse times and clamp transients at lower voltages. es LITERATURE Chap S\ ARTICLES ~ %é qy Live with art! 2 "Once upon a time a psychology professor walked around on a stage while teaching stress management principles to an auditorium filed with students. A\s she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they'd be asked the typical ‘glass half empty or glass half full question. Instead, with a smile on her face, the professor asked, ‘How heavy is this glass of water Im holding? Students shouted out answers ranging from eight ounces to.a couple pounds. She replied, ‘From my perspective, the absolute weight of this glass doesn't matter. }t all depends on how long | hold it f hold it for a minute or two, i's fairly light. If | hold it for an hour straight, its weight might make my arm ache a litle. If| hold it fora day straight, my arm will ikely cramp up and feel completely numb and paralyzed, forcing me to drop the glass to the floor. |n each case, the weight of the glass docsn’t change, but the longer | hold it, the heavierit feels to me? Ass the class shook their heads in agreement, she continued, ‘Y our stresses and worries in life are very much like this glase of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and you begin to ache a little. Think about them all day long, and you will feel completely numb and paralyzed — incapable of doing anything else until you drop them.* “During a research experiment a marine biologist placed a shark into a large holding tank and then released several small bait fish into the tank. ‘As you would expect, the shark quickly swam around the tank, attacked and ate the smaller fish. The marine biologist then inserted a strong piece of clear fiberglass into the tank, creating two separate partitions. She then put the shark on one side of the fiberglass and a new set of bait fish on the other. Asgain, the shark quickly attacked. This time, however, the shark slammed into the fiberglass divider and bounced off. Undeterred, the shark kept repeating this behaviour every few minutes to no avail. Meanwhile, the bait fish swam around unharmed in the second partition. F ventually, about an hour into the experiment, the shark gave up. ‘This experiment was repeated several dozen times over the next few weeks. Fach time, the shark got less aggressive and made fewer attempts to attack the bait fish, untl eventually the shark got tired of hitting the fiberglass divider and simply stopped attacking altogether. The marine biologist then removed the fiberglass divider, but the shark didn't attack. The shark was trained to believe a barrier existed between it and the bait fish, so the bait fish swam wherever they wished, free from harm.” An Enain€€RInG Stodént ‘SRI VIJAYA MADHAVI GRAPHICS @ VIJAYAWADA. - 9848229829,9000977999
