972 - April 2010
National City was ranked the 7th largest bank with assets of $150B offering comm
ercial and retail banking, mortgage financing and servicing, consumer finance, a
nd asset management products and services. Acquired by PNC Financial Services in
late 2008.
VICE PRESIDENT, COMPUTER OPERATIONS & FACILITIES (1997 a" April 2010)
Manager of enterprise-wide technology division directing and governing IT Operat
ions for leading national $150B bank with multi-site 24 hour data centers. Estab
lish and implement IT strategy, remain aware of technology and sourcing trends,
and identify opportunities for business growth and productivity improvement. Est
ablish and manage standards and control costs with service providers. Drive cons
olidation of mainframe, server and storage environments onto enterprise standard
platforms. Conduct cost audits for in-house vs. outsource decisions.
Establish and manage positive relationships with staff, internal business custom
ers and external IT service providers. Own and manage Information Technology Inf
rastructure Library (ITIL)-related processes (e.g., capacity, change, availabili
ty). Analyze service utilization and forecast demand to supply needed infrastruc
ture capacities at the right time and right cost. Lead service performance impro
vement dialogue. Perform trending and continuous improvement analysis, and evalu
ate other key metrics for business decision making. Partner effectively with IT
resources to provide reliable end-to-end IT service delivery.
Projects and Accomplishments:
* Managed and balanced $13M print operations budget (within 1-2% variance) for m
ulti-sites and an avg. of 35 employees.
* Processed and tracked $2M in monthly invoicing.
* Designed and oversaw major building expansion for both the primary and disaste
r recovery sites (Cleveland & Cincinnati) to support water cooled infrastructure
in 15 mos. without interrupting operations.
* Decommissioned old data center and rebuilt new Disaster Recovery Data Center i
n Cincinnati to make it more functional and support business needs. Saved $400K
(40%) of $1M budget through.
* Led project to convert legacy data center to an A/B electrical infrastructure
resulting in allowing the production data center to have electrical maintenance
performed without any disruption to the data center. The A/B system meant the da
ta center could be sustained on either side allowing for the maintenance as well
as allowing load balancing of Power Distribution Unitas (PDUas) and incoming co
mmercial electrical services.
* Evaluated and led Data Center Consolidation Project (combining from two data c
enters to one) and ensured no disruption to daily processing and workflow. This
project was awarded a corporate award and contributed to approx. $ 15,000,000 in
annual cost savings.
* Designed data center layouts and equipment placement. Started hot and cold row
design before it was a notable industry practice.
* Asked to manage Telecom Billing and quickly assessed situation, corrected issu
es with the software vendor, prepared correct budget ($55M spend and recover). S
econd year led spend and achieved an over recovery of $5K (1/100 of budget), for
the first time in company history.
* Led project to complete Print Operations consolidation (7 sites into 2) reduci
ng costs by >$3M/year.
* Achieved prestigious aManager of the Quartera award in 2001.
Selected as a corporate mentor for new college graduates entering the organizati
on for management positions.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS MANAGER (1990 a"1996)
Progressive management responsibilities for 65,000 sq. ft. raised floor data cen
ter space, command center, network control, facility services and print operatio
ns for top national bank. Implemented and managed multiple shifts with up to 60
staff. Coordinated hardware acquisition, disposition, and placement. Developed I
T partnership relationships and managed contracts and vendors. Assisted in compl
ex million dollar IT projects including expanding data center building to state-
of-the-art water-cooled data center facilities in two locations. Planned procedu
res for testing the mechanical and electrical infrastructure for system operatio
nal verification and total site integration.

* Established and managed $250M budget and up to 60 staff.
* Spearheaded critical $115M Data Center Expansion project designing and buildin
g two water-cooled data center facilities in Cleveland and Cincinnati.
* Instituted an automated raised floor management system for all components to o
ptimize space and power utilization.
* Wrote companyas first technical operations manual for operators including aHow
to perform a physical partitioning of an IBM mainframea and documented other be
st practices.
* Assisted corporate HR Department in aNCC Super Saturdaya recruiting activities
to help interview and recruit top talent from colleges.
