THE CONTROL LOGIC SPARK DETECTOR SYSTEM ‘The spark detector is used for surveillance of the dust cextaction ductwork connected tothe silo and to neutralize every spark before it can ignite the slo. The spark detection system thon comprises one or more detectors, an automatic ‘extinguishing group and possibly a monitoring station. \When 2 burning particle passes in front of the detector, the: built-in relay is operated for 3 se0, a sound alarm is turned cn, the solenoid valve ofthe extinguishing group turns open and the nozzle sprays water for 3 se0, usually long enough to extinguich the burning partisle. The moritering statin, if resent, comorses ofner spark detectors located cownstream fom the extinguishing orcup, and triggers an aaim ifa spark | not extinguished n order io stop the fan andor shut off the uct valve. ‘The spark detector is mounted on the external surface ofthe duct, using the mounting irame, which consists of a metal shell In two pieces, carrying inside an anti-viration rubber cushion, In the base to be fixes to the duct s a tempered glass window through which the spark detector wil see inside the duct. The lid closes with four handle screws and allows quick opening for inspecting and testing, ‘The spray nozzle ofthe extinguishing group is instelled inside the duct and posttioned in the center so as to spray in the same direction as the ar fow towards the sil, ‘The solenoid valve that controls the water flow to the spray nozzle, is installed outside the duct, as near to the nozzle as possible ‘flow switch can be mountec between solenaid valve and ‘nozza, outside the duct, to monitor the water flow to the nozzle and give an alam in case of leak of water due io. fault inside thevahe, Itis very important that the spray nozzle should be placed zt "ight distance from the extinguishing spark detector, to alow {or the time taken by the water to reach the inside duct. While electionic circuit delay tra is negighla, watar takes at least 02 sec to form the spray, and ths time varles with tha pressure. five consider an air spead of 15-30 m/s inside the duct, and water pressure of 3-4 bar, a distance of 15 m between detector and nozzle is advised, though the minimum cistance may be less, down te 6 m. “The graph on page MASP 13 shows the minimum distance for various ar velocities. When duct is short and just alows for the minimum cistance ‘we recommend to increase water pressure to 5-6 bar In addition to the extinguisting operation, it may be advisable to close the duct by an electro-pneurratic fire damper valve, mounted downstream from the nazzle and the monitoring detectors, and contralled by either the extinguishing or the monitoring detectors, ‘The delay time ofthe duct valve should also be considered and then be placed at e suficient distance. The closing time depends on the siza, but we suggest fo consider @ tme of 0.5-1 sec. The distance from the spark detectors should ‘nerefore be 15-50 m, Ik may also bo advisable to stop the fan ofthe dust extraction system, under contro of the extinguishing othe monitoring ‘spark detectors. In complete systems the contol pane! supplies the stop ‘command to close the duct valve and stop the fan. ‘The montoring function performed by the spark detectors downstream from the nozzles, long with the fow switch ‘hat monitors the water flow to the razzie, is very important because it provides a higher laval of safety and signals when a ‘spark fs not extinguished, Reasons are many: fauity detectors, wiring problems, faulty solencid valve, drt blocking valve membrane, water pressure too low (1 bar or less), burning particle too large or ba fire, et, In thoso cases tho systom stops the fan, closos tho duct valvo, if any, and requires action by the operator for manual reset Remote testing is provided. When the TEST button on the control panels pressed, a filament bulb lights inside each ‘spark detector and is interpreted by the sensor as a spark. ‘Therefore the whole system comes into operation: the solencic valve turns open and the water nozale sprays for 3 e20. Tho stop command is also activated anc te sound alarm ‘sounds until the operator presses the RESET button. The TEST {function makes initial start-up operations easy and allows the system to be checked at ary time. ‘The 24Vide power supply required by the detectors is supped by the contrat panel, that signals the operation of the spark detectors, the Water fowing through the nozzles, end the alarm for unextinguished spark. The control panel hauses the rolays that control the extingushing operation, the sound alarm, the duct valve closure and the fan stop. It alsa contains the remote test button and the manual reset ‘The senito! panel is enly supplied withthe completo eystoms. Inthe simple systems, win no montorng staton and no flow switch, the contra panalis replaced by a simple rower supply unit without visual sigral, with only the TEST button SPARK DETECTOR RIV-601P/S ATEX CE © 1190 ext aze iPoe Te5°C Description ‘Spark detector AN-201P/S i an electronic fre ela eice, sensitive tc soarks and incandescent bodies n movement.
