Tom Guessford Memorial Basketball Tournament

Tom A. Guessford was born and raised on the Des Moines Southside. He was a member of the South Suburban YMCA
where he served as a board member. He spent countless hours raising money for the Partner with Youth program, which
provides scholarships so children can participate in YMCA programs. In December 2009, Tom passed away from
Melanoma Cancer at the young age of 45. He was a caring person who touched the lives of many people, young and old.
Tom loved to watch children grow and learn and was a mentor to young athletes both on and off the court. He enjoyed all
aspects of the game of basketball, not only playing, but coaching and officiating, and he supported the YMCA basketball
program in all three roles for many years. Tom’s love and dedication to youth and the game of basketball is what inspired
this tournament. Proceeds from the event will go to the South Suburban YMCA’s Partner with Youth program.

On behalf of the Guessford family and the South Suburban YMCA, we welcome you to this year’s tournament. We hope
everyone enjoys the excitement and fellowship of the tournament.
