THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Mathematics,
since its inception, has aimed to be a
centre for excellence in Mathematics
and Computing. It has, since then,
churned out young and motivated
professionals with a commitment to
pursuing careers and perform
research in applied mathematics,
computers and finance. It is the epi-
centre of mathematical progress in
the North-East, contributing through
research, consultancy and training
activities.
IIT Guwahati is the only Indian insti-
tute offering a B.Tech degree in Math-
ematics and Computing, providing a
fusion of mathematics, computer
science and financial engineering.

IITG follows a simple and
transparent placement
policy.
PHASE-I
The invitation, containing
the relevant information
and the Job Announce-
ment Form (JAF), is sent to
the companies / organiza-
tions.
Organizations fill the JAF
and send it back to the
Training and Placement
Cell, IIT Guwahati via
email/post. It is mandatory
to complete the JAF with
due care as it serves as an
introduction of the job pro-
file for the candidates.

PLACEMENT
PROCEDURE
Suitable dates for Pre Placement
Talk (PPT) are decided as per
mutual convenience. PPTs are
held outside class hours.
PHASE-II
The Training and Placement Cell
allots a date to the organization,
which can be confirmed/ negoti-
ated.
PHASE-III
Organizations visit the campus
on the given date and conduct the
written technical/aptitude test,
group discussion/personal inter-
view as a part of their selection
procedure.
The staff members help out the
interested companies with the visit
related assistance like:
Lodging & boarding arrangements
in the IITG Guest House.
Audio-visual facilities for PPT.
Auditoriums/Halls for PPT.
Written tests, group discussions
and individual interviews.
Please note that the facility of video
conferencing at the campus can be
availed for the purpose of interview-
ing candidates in unusual cases
where the company is unable to visit
the campus for genuine reasons.
