HISTORY
NIIT Technologies (NIIT) was formed as a software arm of NIIT Limited in the 1980s.
In 1996, the company entered into a strategic relationship with ESRI, and formed as new joint venture
company, NIIT GIS (ESRI India).
NIIT was restructured from NIIT Limited and formed as a separate company in 2004.
The company acquired a controlling interest in ROOM Solutions in 2006. In the same year, NIIT and
Adecco, human resources service provider, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Ajilon Holding
Europe formed joint venture to deliver application software development and maintenance solutions
to Adecco's clients. Also in 2006, the company signed a contract with Singapore’s Defence Science
and Technology Agency (DSTA), to support eGovernance initiatives.
In 2007, NIIT Technologies AG, a subsidiary of the company, signed an offshore partnership
agreement with DB Systems.
NIIT acquired German-based SofTec GmbH, a provider of IT solutions and services in the airline
revenue accounting and operations space in 2008. In the same year, the company signed a strategic
partnership with Ramco Systems, a provider of innovative software products and services. Also in
2008, it formed a partnership with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC),
to offer value added application services. Further in the same year, NIIT made collaboration with
the National Aviation Company of India (NACIL) and Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS)
consortium (AI SATS Airport Services) to support the consortium’s cargo handling operations at the
new Bengaluru International Airport.
The company made a strategic engagement with Cathay Pacific for the development of a warehouse
operating system (WOS) for their new cargo terminal at the Hong Kong International Airport in 2008.
In the same year, British Airways, the UK's premier airline signed a multi million pound deal with
NIIT Technologies Ltd. Also in 2008, NIIT's subsidiary, ROOM Solutions Ltd implemented ipf3 Rate
Monitor, a technology platform facilitating rapid responses to market and regulatory reformation.
In March 2009, the company's subsidiary NIIT GIS (ESRI India) received a contract from Singapore
Land Authority to develop its Intelligent Map System.
NIIT partnered with Hitachi Information Systems to offer services in Cloud Computing in November
2009. In the same month, NIIT also made a partnership with Kaavo Inc.
The company's subsidiary NIIT GIS entered into a strategic relationship with ITT Visual Information
Solutions (ITT VIS) of Boulder, Colorado in February 2010. As part of the partnership, NIIT GIS
became the distributors of the ENVI suite of image processing software products for India, Nepal,
Bhutan and Sri Lanka.
In February 2010, NIIT received an INR2,280 million project from Border Security Force (BSF) to
execute 'Intranet Prahari' project.
NIIT partnered with Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) to globally implement and market
its COSYS Intelligent Solutions (COSYS IS), the cargo handling solution to other ground handlers
and airlines in March 2010.
