The E7M series rotary encoder has a machined aluminum enclosure, which utilizes either a 4-pin or 6-pin polarized connector. The E7M is specifically designed for high volume cost sensitive OEM motion control applications where digital encoder feedback with moderate resolutions is required. This optical incremental encoder is designed to easily mount to and dismount from an existing shaft to provide digital feedback information. Assembly of the E7M is simple and quick eliminating the need for highly skilled assembly personel. The E7M series is easy to add to existing applications and only consists of four or five main components; base, cover, hub disk assembly, encoder module PCB and internal differential line driver (differential version only). The base and cover are both constructed of machined aluminum and have a black anodized protective finish. Attachment of the base to a surface may be accomplished by utilizing one of three machine screw bolt circle options. Positioning of the base to the centerline of a shaft is ensured by use of a centering tool (sold separately). The cover securely snaps onto the base using a built-in retaining ring. The internal components consist of a reflective sensor and a precision machined aluminum hub disk assembly. The reflective sensor incorporates an LED light source and a monolithic photo detector with signal shaping electronics to produce the two channel quadrature TTL outputs. These components used together provide a system that is very tolerant to mechanical misalignments. For differential versions: the internal differential line driver (26C31) can source and sink 20mA at TTL levels. The recommended receiver is industry standard 26C32. Maximum noise immunity is achieved when the differential receiver is terminated with a 110 ohm resistor in series with a .0047 f capacitor placed across each differential pair. The capacitor simply conserves power; otherwise power consumption would increase by approximately 20mA per pair, or 40mA for 2 pairs. A secure connection to the E7M series encoder is made through a 4-pin (single-ended versions) or 6-pin (differential versions) polarized connector (sold separately). The mating connectors are available from US Digital with several cable options and lengths.

2-option:

E7M

Metal Optical Kit Encoder

G-option:

The 2-option provides two #2-56 x " screws that can be mounted on a 1.280" bolt circle. When this option is not specified, two #4-40 x " screws are provided instead.

C-option:

This option includes mounting ears on the E7M base which enable it to be mounted to a 1.812" diameter bolt circle. The mounting holes are designed to fit two #4-40 x " screws. This option increases overall height by .055".

L-option

The C-option provides a low height of only .470" and is only able to accept a maximum shaft length of .400".

To reduce the average power requirements, the L-option version of the E7M power can be strobed on just long enough to sample outputs A and B. This option is the same as our standard E7M, except the internal power bypass capacitor is not installed. The outputs settling time is typically 200 to 400 nano seconds after power up. The minimum sample frequency must be less than the maximum RPM x CPR / 10.

E-option:

T-option:

The E-option provides a cylindrical extension to the cover allowing for longer shafts of up to .790".

H-option:

When mounting holes are not available, a pre-applied transfer adhesive (with peel-off backing) is available for "stick-on" mounting. T-option specifies transfer adhesive. A centering tool is required when using transfer adhesive. Use the required centering tool to position the base. Instructions: Peel off paper backing, slip centering tool into center hole of base, insert shaft into hole of centering tool and slide base and centering tool down onto mounting surface (see figure 1 of assembly instructions). Press to form a good bond, then slip tool off and continue with standard mounting instructions.

The H-option adds a .438" diameter hole to the coverfor the shaft to pass through. The height of the H-option is only .470" (the same as the C-option.)
