entschieden haben. Lassen Sie sich von
eintausend handgefertigten Klängen,
dargereicht von hochwertigen
Algorithmen aus dem Hause Waldorf,
verzaubern!
Vor dem Zauber gibt es allerdings ein
paar langweilige technische Prozeduren
zu bewältigen, bei denen Ihnen dieses
Handbuch hilfreich zur Seite stehen
möchte. Keine Angst, es ist ganz einfach!

Preface
Thank you for choosing nano. Enjoy the
magic of one thousand hand crafted
sounds, performed by high quality
algorithms from the well known
synthesizer company Waldorf!
Before the magic, there are some boring
technical procedures to overcome, it is
the purpose of this manual to helpfully
assist you with these. Don't worry, it is
quite easy.

Sicherheitshinweis !
Bevor Sie das Modul auspacken und in das
Keyboard einbauen, sorgen Sie dafür, dass
Sie sich von statischer Aufladung befreien,
um einen möglichen Defekt des Moduls und
Ihres Keyboards zu vermeiden. Dazu sollten
Sie einen geerdeten metallischen Gegenstand
berühren, z.B. einen Heizkörper. Stellen Sie
auch sicher, dass das Keyboard von der
Stromversorgung getrennt ist.
Installation:
Entfernen Sie die Schrauben der Kunststoff-
abdeckung auf der Rückseite mittels eines Kreuz-
schlitzschraubenziehers (Phillips Gr.1). Lösen Sie
die Kabel von der Abdeckung.
Legen Sie das bedruckte Halteblech, wie im Bild
gezeigt, über die Buchsen. Verschrauben Sie das
Halteblech mittels der beigefügten Schrauben mit
dem Modul.
Verbinden Sie nun die beiden Kabel mit den
vorgesehenen Steckern des Moduls wie im Bild
gezeigt.
Schieben Sie das Modul vorsichtig in den
Erweiterungsschacht des Keyboards und
befestigen es mit den Schrauben.
Caution!
Circuit board components are vulnerable to
damage by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Before handling any board, make sure you
dissipate your body's charge. Touch a
conductive surface of a heater or other
element connected to common earth ground
to discharge the static electricity present in
your body. Also make sure to disconnect
Keyboard from power.
Installation:
Remove screws of plastic cover on back using a
Phillips head screwdriver size 1. Detach cables
from plastic cover.
Position output jacks of board into printed tin
cover as shown. Fasten tin cover using the
accompanying screws.
Connect cables to board as shown.
Now carefully place the module into the
expansion slot and fix it using the screws.

Anwahl der Sounds
Die tausend Sounds des nano sind in acht
Bänken zu je 128 Programmen entsprechend der
Tabelle im Anhang organisiert. Zur Anwahl eines
beliebigen Sounds gehen Sie wie folgt vor:
- Wählen Sie die <KNOB FUNC> Ebene mit dem
entsprechenden Taster an, so dass die
zugehörige LED leuchtet.
- Selektieren Sie die Bank (0 bis 7) mit <KN3>.
Tipp: nachdem der Regler einmal betätigt wurde,
können Sie die Bank mit den <DEC/INC> Tastern
anwählen.
- Drücken Sie nun <PROGRAM> und wählen Sie
dann das Programm mit dem Dial oder den
<DEC/INC> Tastern. Zur Anwahl eines
Programmes innerhalb der Bank muss diese
natürlich nicht neu angewählt sein.
Nano empfängt auf allen 16 MIDI-Kanälen,
folglich kann für jeden Kanal ein anderer Sound
eingestellt werden. Wählen sie hierzu den Kanal
mittels <CHANNEL> und wiederholen Sie die
Anwahl des Sounds. Üblicherweise wird das
Gerät allerdings eher im Sequencerbetrieb
multitimbral betrieben, so dass Sie sich diese
Prozedur sparen können.
Im Dual- oder Split-Modus des UF-Keyboards
haben Sie allerdings die Möglichkeit, zumindest
zwei Sounds des nano gleichzeitig zu spielen.
Selektieren Sie hierzu die Sounds auf den
entsprechenden Kanälen und aktivieren Sie den
entsprechenden Modus. Einzelheiten zu Dual-
und Split-Modi entnehmen Sie bitte Ihrem UF-
Handbuch.
Betrieb mit Sequencer
Wird das UF-Keyboard über USB an einen
Computer angeschlossen, so lässt sich auch
nano über diesen ansteuern. Hierzu ist es
allerdings notwendig, das MIDI-Routing des UF-
Keyboards umzustellen. Drücken Sie hierzu
gleichzeitig <CHANNEL> und <DUAL> und
stellen Sie dann mit <DEC/INC> das Routing auf
"1" - nano empfängt nun MIDI über USB, und
Sounds können dann auf allen 16 Kanälen über
MIDI angewählt, gespielt und modifiziert werden.
Um wieder über das Keyboard zu spielen, stellen
Sie das MIDI-Routing wieder auf "0". Nähere
Einzelheiten zum MIDI-Routing entnehmen Sie
bitte dem UF-Handbuch.

Selecting Sounds
The thousand Sounds of nano are organised in
eight bank of 128 program per bank according to
the table in the appendix. To select a sound,
please proceed as follows:
- Activate the <KNOB FUNC> Led with the
appropriate button
- Select bank 0 to 7 using <KN3>. Tip: Once the
knob has been moved, you can also use the
<DEC/INC> buttons to select the bank number.
- Now press <PROGRAM> and select the desired
program number using the dial or the <DEC/INC>
buttons. Of course you don't have to re-select the
bank for choosing a program in the same bank.
Nano receives on all sixteen MIDI channels, and
each channel can be assigned to a different
sound. To do so, select desired channel using
<CHANNEL> button and repeat the required
steps for selecting the sound. However,
multitimbral operation is usually done using an
external sequencer, so that you don't have to do
this manually.
In Dual or Split Modes you can activate two
sounds of nano simultaneously. To do so, select
sounds on both channels and activate Dual or
Split mode. Plese refer to the UF manual on
further details about Dual and Split operation.
Operation with a Sequencer
You can also control nano with a computer if this
connected to the UF keyboard using USB. To do
so, it is neccessary to change the MIDI routing of
the UF keyboard. Press <CHANNEL> and
<DUAL> simultaneously and adjust routing to "1"
using the <DEC/INC> buttons. Now nano
receives MIDI via USB, and sounds can be
selected, played and altered on all 16 MIDI
channels. In order to play nano with the keyboard
again, set MIDI routing back to "0". See chapter
4.2 in the UF keyboard manual for further
information about MIDI routing.
Regelung der Lautstärke
Die Lautstärke wird mit den Fadern des UF-
Keyboards eingestellt. Über <M.VOLUME> lässt
sich die Gesamtlautstärke regeln, die Lautstärke
der einzelnen MIDI-Kanäle über die acht Regler
entsprechen der mit <FADER FUNC> ein-
gestellten Zuordnung.
Verändern der Sounds
Einige Parameter der Sounds des nano können
mit den Reglern des UF-Keyboards verändert
werden. Deaktivieren Sie hierzu die <KNOB
FUNC> Ebene, so dass die entsprechende LED
nicht leuchtet. Nun haben Sie mit den Reglern
folgende Einstellmöglichkeiten:
1 CUTOFF
Cutoff-Frequenz des Filters. Viele Sounds haben
zwei Filter, hier werden meist beide Filter
beeinflusst.
2 RESONANCE
Resonanz des Filters / beider Filter
3 ATTACK
Anstiegszeit der Filter- und Amplitudenhüllkurve
4 RELEASE
Abklingzeit der Filter- und Amplitudenhüllkurve
5 PAN
Panoramaposition der Effektsektion.
6 REVERB
Regelt den Effektanteil des globalen Effekts.
Dieser richtet sich nach dem auf MIDI-Kanal 1
eingestellten Sounds und muss nicht
zwangsläufig ein Halleffekt sein.
7 CHORUS
Regelt den Effektanteil des soundspezifischen
Effekts für die Kanäle 1 bis 4. Kanäle 5 bis 16
haben keinen spezifischen Effekt, der Regler
zeigt hier keine Wirkung.
8 TEMPO
Regelt das Tempo für Arpeggiator,
synchronisierte Delay Effekte und
Niederfrequenzoszillatoren (LFO).

Volume adjustment
Volume is controlled by the faders of the UF
keyboard. The overall Level can be controlled by
the <M.VOLUME> fader, the individual volume of
the MIDI channels can be controlled using the
eight faders according to the <FADER FUNC>
assignment.
Altering Sounds
Some sound parameters of nano can be changed
using the knobs of the UF keyboard. To do so,
please deactivate the <KNOB FUNC> LED. Now
the eight knobs provide these adjustment
facilities:
1 CUTOFF
Cutoff frequency of the filter. Some sounds have
two filters, in this case mostly both filters are
affected.
2 RESONANCE
Resonance of filter or both filters
3 ATTACK
Attack rate of filter and amplitude envelope
4 RELEASE
Release rate of filter and amplitude envelope
5 PAN
Pan position before the effects section
6 REVERB
Adjustment of mix to global effect. The global
effect type depends on the sound on channel 1
and is not necessarily a reverb.
7 CHORUS
Adjustment of effect mix to the individual effect.
Only sounds on channels 1 to 4 have an
individual effect, so for channels 5 to 16, this knob
has no effect.
8 TEMPO
Adjustment of tempo for arpeggiator, clocked
delay effects and low frequency oscillators (LFO).
Zusammenspiel mit UFDP-1
Falls Sie zusätzlich im Besitz eines UFDP-1
Piano-Moduls sind, können sie dies gleichzeitig
mit nano nutzen. Befestigen Sie hierfür das
UFDP-1 durch die vorgestanzten Löcher der
Rückblende und verbinden Sie mit dem Kabel die
sechspoligen Steckerleisten von nano und dem
UFDP-1, das ist alles.
Beachten Sie, dass das UFDP-1 auf die MIDI-
Kanäle 1 und 2 reagiert, während nano auf allen
16 Kanälen spielt. Falls Sie Kanäle 1 und 2
exklusiv für das UFDP-1 nutzen möchten, können
Sie den Empfang der Kanäle 1&2 des nano
unterbinden. Aktivieren Sie hierzu die
<DRAWBAR> Funktion des UF-Keyboards und
stellen sie am <Fader 8> „127“ ein, Kanal 1&2
werden von nano nun nicht mehr beachtet. Um
dies wieder rückgängig zu machen, stellen Sie
einfach irgendeinen anderen Wert auf <Fader 8>
im <DRAWBAR> Modus ein.
Diese Funktion ist erst ab Firmware 1.3 verfügbar.
Lesen Sie weiter, um festzustellen welche
Firmware auf ihrem nano läuft.
Feststellen der Firmware Version
Drücken Sie <CHANNEL> und <SPLIT>
gleichzeitig und hören Sie aufmerksam zu. Falls
nano keinen Ton von sich gibt, handelt es sich um
eine Firmware vor der Version 1.3, ansonsten
hören Sie eine Kombination aus tiefen und hohen
Tönen. Zählen Sie die tiefen Töne, denken Sie
sich einen Punkt, und zählen Sie die hohen Töne:
schon haben Sie die Versionsnummer, z.B. 1.3 für
einen tiefen und drei hohe Töne.
Aktualisierung der Firmware
Die Firmware des nano kann auf die neueste
Version aktualisiert werden. Diese kann von
www.hyperactive.de in Form eines MIDI Files
heruntergeladen werden. Verbinden Sie zur
Aktualisierung erst Ihren Computer über USB mit
dem UF-Keyboard. Nun ist es noch erforderlich,
das USB MIDI Signal nano zukommen zu lassen.
Drücken Sie hierzu gleichzeitig <CHANNEL> und
<DUAL> und tippen Sie die <INC> Taste, bis in
der Anzeige "001" zu lesen ist. Starten Sie nun Ihr
Sequencerprogramm, wählen Sie das UF-
Keyboard als MIDI-Ausgang und spielen Sie das
MIDI File, welches die neue Firmware enthält, ab.
Sobald die Firmware aktualisiert ist, signalisiert
nano dies mit einem kurzen Piepser.

Cooperation with UFDP-1
If you have a UFDP-1 Piano Module in addition to
nano, you cane use both simultaneaously with
your UF keyboard. Mount the UFDP-1 into the
backplane through the pre-perforated holes and
connect it to nano using the 6-pin cable, this is all
that is required.
Note that UFDP-1 receives on channel 1 and 2,
whereas nano receives on all 16 MIDI channels.
If you wish to reserve channels 1 and 2 for
UFDP-1 exclusively, you can disable reception of
channel 1 and 2 on nano. To do so, activate
<DRAWBAR> function on your keyboard and
move <Fader 8> all way down so that it shows
127. Now channels 1&2 are not disturbed by
nano anymore. To reenable these channels, just
select any other value on <Fader 8> in
<DRAWBAR> Mode.
Note that this feature is avaliable from Firmware
version 1.3 on, read further to see how to reveal
the firmware version.
Checking Firmware version
Press <CHANNEL> and <SPLIT> simultaneously
and listen to nano. If it emits no sound at all, you
have a firmware version before 1.3, otherwise
you hear a combination of some low and high
notes. To detect the version, count the low notes,
insert an imaginary dot, then count the high
notes, and you have the version, e.g. 1.3 for a
single low note and three high notes.
Upgrading the firmware
The firmware of nano can be updated to the most
recent version. It can be downloaded from
www.hyperactive.de and comes in the form of a
MIDI File. To perform the upgrade, you need to
connect your UF keyboard to your computer usinf
a USB cable first. Then enable USB MIDI to
nano by pressing <CHANNEL> and <DUAL>
simultaneously, hit the <INC> button until the
display shows "001". Now launch your favourite
sequencer application, select your UF keyboard
as MIDI out and play the MIDI File containing the
upgrade. A successfull upgrade will be
acknowledged with a short beep.
