Feature:
The Gamma Service Tool is the application software for performing the tasks such as reading out and
writing of the 3D Gamma data on the projector that is connected to a PC via a communication function.
The Gamma Service Tool has the following features.
1-6. Indicator
The error status of this unit is indicated by the type of flashing of indicator. The upper case assembly has
the WARNING indicator and the ON/STANDBY indicator. Various error contents are indicated by the
type of flashing of indicator. The types of indicator flashing and the error statuses are indicated below.
WARNING ON/STANDBY

PC input block
The signal from Input A is input to the video processor. At the video processor, the signal is converted to
the digital data by the built-in AD converter.
To Input A, PC signals, component signals, and video GBR signals can be input.
The sensor boards include the thermal sensor board and IR sensor/indicator board.
This supplies the lamp power and the system power. For the system power, +15.25 V, +12 V, and +3.3 V
are output, and the circuit power is generated on the main board.
To get a power cord, please contact your local Sony Sales Office/Service Center.
w
. Use the approved Power Cord (3-core mains lead)/Appliance Connector/Plug with earthing-contacts
that conforms to the safety regulations of each country if applicable.
. Use the Power Cord (3-core mains lead)/Appliance Connector/Plug conforming to the proper ratings
(Voltage, Ampere).
. Never use an injured power cord.
All boards mounted in this unit use lead-free solder. Be sure to use lead-free solder when repairing the
boards of this unit. A lead free mark (LF) indicating that the solder contains no lead is printed on each
board.
(Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with the lead free mark due to their particular
size.)
n
. The lead-free solder melts at a temperature about 40 dC higher than the ordinary solder, therefore, it is
recommended to use the soldering iron having a temperature regulator.
. The ordinary soldering iron can be used but the iron tip has to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly
longer time. The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if the heated tip is applied for too long, so
be careful.
2-1. Preparation
n
. Service mode cannot be entered while the menu is displayed.
. If the service mode cannot be entered by above procedure, press the [MENU] key twice (Display the
menu once and close it). After that, perform step 2 again.
n
. Perform this adjustment in a dark place.
. Be sure to adjust the in-polarizer assembly in the order of (G), (R) and (B).
. Perform this adjustment when removing any one of the in-polarizer assembly (R)/(G)/(B).

1. Try to read the optical data from the faulty unit using the 3D Gamma Service tool. If succeeded in
reading, perform the V COM Adjustment. (Refer to “2-6. V COM Adjustment”.)
t
Regarding how to obtain and use the 3D Gamma Service tool, contact your local Sony Sales Office/
Service Center.
2. If the optical data could not be read from the faulty unit in step 1, remove the IC (EEPROM) from the
faulty board and replace the IC (EEPROM) of the new board with the removed one.
(Refer to “2-4. EEPROM Replacement”.)
System EEPROM: U18
Gamma EEPROM: U20
3. Execute the RGB and YUV calibration. (Refer to “2-5. ADC Calibration”.)
U27
t
Perform the adjustments in Sections 2-5-1 and 2-5-2 continuously.
. By the 3D Gamma Service tool, the V COM data is not replaced. Therefore, perform the V COM
adjustment when optical data is replaced by the 3D Gamma Service tool.
. When the EEPROM is replaced, the V COM data is inherited so that the V COM adjustment is not
necessary.
If flicker is significant on the screen, perform the V COM adjustment.
Procedure
1. Input the 100 % flat field signal to the INPUT A connector and allow the warm-up of 10 minutes
aging at a minimum.
2. Enter the service mode and select “VCOM”.
3. Input the XGA, G-single color, 80 %, flat field signal.
4. Move the cursor key until it is positioned at VCOM-G Normal.
5. Adjust the VCOM-G Normal value until flicker is reduced to minimal by [*], [&] key.
6. Change the input signal to the XGA, R-single color, 80 %, flat field signal.
7. Move the cursor key until it is positioned at VCOM-R Normal.
8. Adjust the VCOM-R Normal value until flicker is reduced to minimal by [*], [&] key.
9. Change the input signal to the XGA, B-single color, 80 %, flat field signal.
10. Move the cursor key until it is positioned at VCOM-B Normal.
11. Adjust the VCOM-B Normal value until flicker is reduced to minimal by [*], [&] key.
12. Reverse the “Image Flip” upside-down and right-to-left, and perform the above adjustment procedure
from step 2 to step 11.
<< Vcom & Misc. >>

* The gamma memory is realized by giving offset to the Contrast and Brightness output values to the
devices in the gamma mode function.
The adjustment items (W/B, V COM) that can be adjusted in the Service Mode, are memorized in the
NVM at the time when the user performs adjustment and performs the memory operation. Note that the
factory adjustment data will be lost at this moment.
