CLINICAL NOTES
Parents:
Shepherd family is quite British by origin; evidence of dynamic rock and pastoral folk in the gene pool, with some transatlantic alternative rock antecedents. Multi-instrumental traits apparent, particularly in Pope and Douglass. Note early loss of grandparent for Trenerry (vd. Track 5 - Disappointed), parent for Douglass. Paternal relationship for Pope highly musical. Paternity issues somewhat complex (see birth certificate). Date of conception most likely coincides with formation of current family unit in early 2009, when the present range of musical styles and organs budded. Development of sound characterised by gradual fusing of parental styles. Composition (Trenerry) heavily influenced by impending birth of first child, general concerns about contribution to the world and posterity (notably tracks 1 & 3). Extensive prenatal development of all tracks in North East, England gig scene. Protracted and occasionally difficult. Waters broke in June 2010, major contractions in May and August; first delivery attempt in September, second (successful) attempt in November, with master tying-off completed in December, resulting in five tracks. Remedial bilateral trackiectomy with minor grafting accomplished in early 2011, resulting in reprise (vd. Track 6 - Generations). Implements applied included Telecaster guitars, Fender amps, Multi-part Vocal Harmony, Combo Organ, Double Bass and Mellotron. Child is eclectic, with an uplifting worldview. Parents philosophical and well-adjusted to an adverse musico-industrial climate. Is Shepherd seem well aware of the changing nature of the world around them, and are hopeful that Songs for Sons can help to change it for the better.
