Troops to College
Info Brief
Troops to College is a program mandated by the California State Chancellors Office. By design, it is intended to attract veterans to attend public California state universities. Collectively, all of the services have been allocated 115 seats throughout the 23 state universities in California. 15 out of 115 have been reserved for the Army and Army Reserve for School Year 2011/2012. According to the Troops to College website, http://www.troopstocollege.ca.gov/, the program was originally designed to provide a source of information to veterans about the wide range of benefits available to them. The Troops to College Program gives priority placement to veterans eligible to be accepted into a California State University without having to compete with other eligible non-veteran perspective students. Eligibility criteria are: Veterans will only be accepted for their first undergraduate degree. The veteran must be fully qualified and eligible for acceptance into the Cal State University to which they are applying. Soldiers applying must have their university applications endorsed by their commanding general. Separated veterans must have been separated within two years prior to enrollment date to be eligible for a Troops to College allocated slot. Application Packets are recommended to contain the following: 1. Applicant personal info Name/contact etc 2. Letter of recommendation from appropriate military branch leader (NTC & Ft Irwin CDR for Army) 3. Intended degree/major. Also needs to include a secondary major in case first one isnt available. 4. Copy of military and high school / college transcripts. *5. Internal review of application package (Ed Center, Bldg. 1020, Corner of 3rd & F). Upon completing application take to Ed Center.
