Gerald C. Allen, Sr.

, Jerry, was born on January 17, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY and was called home peacefully at the age of 74 on June 4, 2011 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. He was the beloved husband of Anita Allen for 14 wonderful years and one of 3 siblings which included the late Mildred Riley and late Eugene Allen. Jerry attended DC Public Schools from grade school thru High School. He became part of DC history by being in the first integrated graduating class from the Circle T McKinley Tech high school in 1956 receiving his High School Diploma. He later went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Account from Federal City College in Washington, DC in 1975. With his love of country, Jerry entered into the United States Army and served two years. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, he worked for the United States Post Office. He then went on to work at the General Accounting Office for 25 years until he retired in 1992. Jerry loved to read and study the bible, ski, jog, play pool, swim, and dance. Along with his infectious smile, which touched the hearts and souls of many, Jerrys sense of humor was second to none. He was the best husband, Dad, cousin, uncle and friend you could have. Many people knew him by seeing him jogging every day wearing a sweatshirt which read Jesus Christ by Popular Demand. He lived life to the fullest and loved God with every ounce of his soul. Jerrys legacy lives on with his wife Anita Allen, 4 children; Gerald C. Allen, Jr., Stephen E. Allen (Maria), Christopher P. Allen, Sr., and Nicole E. Reeder (Arthur), 7 grandchildren; Ashley, Krysten, Courtney, Christopher Jr., Nicholas, Joshua and Arielle V. Reeder. With the union of Jerry and Anita God blessed him with 2 more children Bruce A. Boyd (Valencia), Robert S. Boyd, Jr. (Annette) 6 grandchildren Sherrell, Chaz, Jalen, Ashlee, Amber, Alyssa, and one great-grandson Zelen. The family and friends will return to the church fellowship hall following the interment for a repast.

Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped into the next room I am I, and you are you Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, Speak to me in the easy way which you always used Put no difference in your tone, Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household world that it always was, Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, Just around the corner. All is well.

Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918 Canon of St Pauls Cathedral

Jerry has been a member of Capital Ski Club for over twenty years. The first thing you notice about him is his infectious smile. If you know his children, you will also know that the smile was passed on. With his pride and enthusiasm, Jerry was a member of the clubs racing team. At the intermediate skiing level, Jerry helped lead Capital Ski Club on a seven year winning streak in the Small Club Racing category for the NBS Eastern Region. Long before this and after, Jerry continued to medal at the regional and national levels. Jerry put the gentle in gentleman. Between his smile and gentleness, he was the ideal person for the position of membership chairperson, which he served for many years. Peace does not come from knowing how you will find the answer, where to look for it, when it will come, or what it will be. Peace comes from putting your trust in Jesus Christ and without a doubt, we know Jerry found the answer. We, Capital Ski Club, are going to miss him.
