Pre-press and printing
Printed films give brands the final touch. High-quality graphic images enhance the visual appeal of the pack and emphasize the quality of the packaged goods. Metallized and demetallized films, multi-coloured designs, special effects such as silver backing and Supersilver create sparkling highlights at the point of sale. With our rotogravure and flexo printing presses we can print the most sophisticated designs. We offer many different techniques: from glossy or matt spot coating to two-side in-register printing of thermoforming films. Our in-house facilities and capabilities include fully-automated platemaking and cylinder preparation plus colour & ink management all along the line from repro to the final print, thus ensuring maximum flexibility, consistent quality and reproducibility. From pack design to printing, we provide all stages as a one-stop service. The benefits of this single-source approach include optimal coordination and absolute confidentiality.

We offer a comprehensive range of flexible and semi-rigid multilayer and barrier films for packaging bread, baguettes and other partially baked items.

Lidding films/ flowpack (FFS) films

Our lidding films (top films) safeguard the quality and freshness of food products either in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) or vacuum-packed. The type of film depends on the individual requirements of the product. Wipak offers a broad spectrum of films with optional extras such as antifog features and an EVOH barrier. To meet specific criteria, the materials used are polypropylene, polyamide or foamed polyester laminates.

Flexible thermoforming films

Our multilayer films tailored to the specific needs of bakery products are based on a high-performance combination of polyamide and polyethylene. The exterior layer of polyamide (nylon) provides high slip, high temperature resistance and a glossy appearance. With an additional outer layer of polypropylene, the films satisfy high demands in terms of flex-crack and puncture resistance. Our Combitherm range can be supplied with various sealing and barrier layers, and alongside the wide array of special-purpose films, it also includes sterilizable/ retortable grades.

The key requirement when packaging perishable food products is a low oxygen transmission rate. Our Escofoam films made of coextruded and expanded polyester (PET) provide appealing haptic or tactile properties and supreme machinability. Their features include a high gas barrier and an effective polyolefin sealing layer. Our polypropylene films such as Multipet and Multi PP are ideal for semirigid packs with a high gas barrier. They are available as thermoformable rollstock. Multilayer films produced with OxyShield ensure that protective gases cannot escape and that chilled or deep-frozen products have an extended shelf life. Based on Bialon XX, the film is ideal for packaging bakery products as it provides good optical properties and is pasteurizable up to 90C. The highly resistant transparent film consists of polyamide (nylon) with an embedded EVOH barrier layer. It is designed as a substrate for high-quality laminates. In these composite structures, OxyShield provides an immensely effective oxygen barrier which is up to ten times higher than that of coated films. The optimal multilayer film depends on the specific product requirements. Tailored to these individual needs, either polypropylene, polyamide or foamed polyester laminates with or without a barrier layer can be used.

Reclosable films
The Booklet closure system is where the two halves of the pack have different draw depths and one is folded over and mechanically wedged to form a lid on the other tray. With the Multipet Topforming system, two PET trays are pressed one into the other and hermetically sealed. With a slight lateral bulge, the shallower lid fits exactly and firmly into the deeper tray. Form-fill-seal and stand-up pouches can be provided with zip closures, selfadhesive labels or a reclosable sealant. Our Repak system is based on an adhesive layer in the bottom film (tray) with a highly effective migration barrier and the sealing layer.
