GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES FOR ELECTIONS AS ADOPTED FROM THE AMENDED BYE-LAWS OF THE REDEEMERS UNIVERSITY STAFF CO-OPERATIVE

MULTIPURPOSE SOCIETY

VOTING METHODS
1.

Voting shall be conducted only by the Electoral Committee Only registered members of the society shall be entitled to vote. (PROSPECTIVE VOTERS ARE TO COME WITH THEIR STAFF IDENTITY CARD). Voting shall be by SECRET BALLOTING. A member has the right to vote for only one candidate among those vying for a particular position. No candidate shall be allowed to vote by proxy. Any interested voting member shall be present AT THE VOTING CENTER with his/her identity card.

6. Officials attending to the ballot box shall not leave the ballot box unattended to at any time during the voting period.

THE BALLOT BOX SHALL ONLY BE HANDLED BY DULY ASSIGNED OFFICIALS.

8. THE BALLOT BOX SHALL NOT BE OPENED BY ANYBODY UNTIL AFTER THE END OF VOTING.

In the case of a candidate being returned unopposed, the candidate must nevertheless SCORE AT LEAST 51% OF VOTES to be declared a winner. All campaigns by all candidates END A DAY BEFORE the election.

VIOLATION of any of these rules may lead to disqualification of such candidates.

RESULTS OF THE VOTING

Votes shall be counted by the members of the Electoral Committee in the presence of duly assigned representative of each candidate If there is a tie in the result the president has a casting vote which he can exercise The winning candidate for a particular post shall be the one who won by a simple majority vote cast

15. The result shall be announced by the Returning Officer appointed by the Electoral Committee COMPLAINTS AND PETITIONS

Where a candidate/voter has any complaint concerning the conduct and or results of the election, such shall direct the complaints to the Chairman of the Electoral Committee within 24hrs after the election The Electoral Committee MUST attend to all the complaints and give the results within 48hrs after the complaints

AVAILABLE ELECTIVE POSITIONS According to the Bye-laws of the society, the following positions are up for election: 1. President 2. Vice-president 3. Treasurer 4. Secretary

5. Assistant secretary 6. Public relations officer 7. Protocol officer

Welfare officer 1(strictly to be contested for by a male only) Welfare officer 2(strictly to be contested for by a female only)

QUALIFICATIONS OF CANDIDATES FOR THE VARIOUS ELECTIVE POSITIONS

The Electoral Committee, the body mandated by the bye-laws to conduct elections into elective positions, requires that the following criteria MUST be satisfied by ALL candidates. He/she MUST:

Have been a member of the society for at least one year preceding the election date. Be a person of impeccable character both as a staff of the institution and as a member of the society. Obtain the election nomination form and submit same within stipulated time frame. Obtain reference/endorsement from two (2) members of the society.

The candidates vying for the positions of the president, vicepresident, treasurer and secretary MUST have at least 75% attendance at all meetings of the society, while those for other positions MUST have at least 50%. Nomination forms into all elective positions are available and to be picked up for one thousand naira (N1,000:00K) only, at the societys secretariat; with effect from 15th MARCH, 2011 and returned NOT LATER THAN 7th APRIL, 2011.
