English Language and Nepal Human beings, at the centre of every phenomenon, have lots of amazing creations. Among those, language is one of the best assets of human civilization. By using this charismatic tool, human beings proved themselves superior among others. So, language, in its competence level, is at the centre of every human creation. The main function of language is to help people communicate, share ideas and emotion and unite people together. It is systematic and scientific tool. There are thousands and thousands of languages spoken all around the world. Among them, English is considered as an international language. It is, by international treaty, the official language for aerial and maritime communications. English is an official language of the United Nations and many other international organizations, including the International Olympic Committee. The expansion of the British Empire andsince World War IIthe influence of the United States have spread English throughout the globe. Because of that global spread, English has developed a host of English dialects and English-based creole languages and pidgins. English is currently the most wide spread language in the world, it is second only to Mandarin Chinese in terms of the amount of people which speak it, but second to none in terms of the number of people learning it. It is currently the primary language used on the World Wide Web, in the political and business arenas Mandarin Chinese is hardly spoken outside Chinese communities, however in many regions of the world where English is not the native language, it is still widely spoken and integrated in the curriculums of educational institutions e.g. Nepal. In many countries Malaysia, for example, where there various ethnic groups with their

own unique language, English is used as a means of communications between all of them In the context of Nepal, it had never been a colonized country. However, the influence of English is prominent. Nepal is multilingual, multicultural, multiethnic country. The different variation in languages is found here in Nepal while English, with its abundant opportunities, always lure Nepalese citizens. It can be vividly noticed in English Boarding school culture. The country that had less than 300 college graduates in 1950 now populates thousands of university graduates, unemployed though, with years of exposure to English education. English, which was once the language of rulers and elites, has now reached the mass from the urban locations to schools in the hills. It has become an indicator of educatedness. At the same time, in this facebook world no one is far from anyone. They share their ideas and emotions and are much closed to each other with the help of English language. So the reality of English language can not be discarded. It is indeed at the centre of every phenomenon. However, westernization is not the real solution to any of us rather modernization or positive change in the changing context can help us to grow and live with dignity in this global world.
