1.1 General principles

1.2.1 Situation of the installation shafts


RuleNumber2:

Risingpipesandbranchesmaynotbemountedinoratwallsdirectlytorooms
whicharesensitivetonoise(livingroomsandsleepingrooms,offices).

Thenoiseorigininthepipelinescanbepracticallyneglected.However,water
pipescaninitiatenoisesofoutletarmaturesandapparatusintheconstruction
structure,ifstiffconnectionsexist.Besides,noisesofdrainagescanbeannoying
duetoitskind.

1.2.2 Practical realization of installation shafts


Frontwallinstallation

Essentialisthestructuralbornesoundinsulationtowardstheconstructionbody.
Thisinsulationmustbedonewithsoundinsulationitemsforallkindsofpipelines
andyourcomponents(armatures,valvesetc.).Thefollowingfiguresshow
principlesolutions.

Inordertoallowaproperandcorrectfrontwallinstallationforshafts,the
neededspacehastobeplanned.Frontwallinstallationshaftsforverticalpipes
needaminimumdepthof25cm,forhorizontalpipes20cm.

Pipelinesinslitsandshafts
Theneededspaceforpipesinwallslitsandshaftsisoftenunderestimated.Here
aswelltheneedingsforadditionalspacefortheinsulationofthepipesmustbe
takenintoaccount.

Anabsorptiveliningoftheinstallationshaftsisabletodecreasesoundlevels
significantly.Atleasttwoinnersidesoftheshaftshouldgetanabsorbermaterial
(e.g.,20mm30mmthickmineralwool).

Nopipelinemaytouchthebuildingdirectly,meanspipemetalindirectcontactto
walls,ceilingsandslabsmustbeavoidedcategorical:Allpipelineshavetobe
insulatedfromthebuildingbyappropriateisolatingmaterialatcontactpoint.

1.3.1 Execution advice
Insulatingsleevesof30mmto50mmofthicknesswhichareoftenusedfor
eliminatingcondensationorthermallossesatinstallationpipesareaswell
appropriateforsoundinsulation.

1.4.3 Curves in drainages


Inthecurvesofsewagepipelinesimpactnoisesoriginatefromtheimpactsofthe
waterduringdirectionchangesfromverticalinthehorizontaldirection.Thiskind
ofnoiseisexceptionallycriticalandannoyinginpractice.Themostimportant
aspectfornoisereductionofsuchcurvesistodivertthewaterstreamnothard
andsuddenly,butsoftanduniformly.

1.4.1 General principles
Insewagepipelineswithoutpressurenotonlythewaterwiththedirtmaterialsin
itinfluencesthenoisegenerating,butalsotheenclosedair.Thisisthereason,
thatwehavestructuralandairbornesoundproblems.
Thenecessarysoundinsulatingmeansaredependingonthedrainagematerial.
Formetalmadepipesthestructuralbornesoundisdeciding,forplasticmade
pipestheinsulationofairbornesoundintheforeground.Inthefollowingthe
criticalpointsconcerningsewagepipesandthesuitablemeansareshown.

1.4.2 Pipe shaft


Thedownpipeshavetoalwaystobefastenedwithinsulatingpipeclamps.Also
forthenoisesofsewagepipelinestheabsorptiveshaftliningisanadvantage.Ifa
sewagepipemustbeunavoidablyinstalledwithinawall,astructuralbornsound
insulationisrecommended,inanycase.Inallcasesanadditionalairbornesound
insulationisnecessary.

1.4.4 Flow noises


Inhorizontaldrainageswithlowslopefluentwastewaterthenoisegeneratingis
lowerasinfallingandimpactzones.Criticalareasareonlyhorizontalpipelines
installedinthevoidabovesuspendedceilings.Inroomswhicharesensitiveto
noiseherealldrainagepipesmustgetinsulatingsleevesandinadditionthevoid
mustgetadampingbyplacingsoundabsorbentmaterial.
