New Data Shows Morale of Military Very High Compared to Corporate America
CareerBliss Indicates Job Security, Benefits and Career Advancement are Key Happiness Drivers Irvine, CA (October 20, 2010) CareerBliss, the leading online resource helping people find joy and success at every step in their careers, today announces new data revealing that despite multiple ongoing engagements, lengthy deployments, and lower salaries, the military is among the most blissful places to work in America. The data reflects that military personnel are more satisfied at work than many in the private sector. All four major branches of the military and the Army National Guard outrank well-known companies such as Disney, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft in overall happiness. The 2010 BlissIndex draws from almost one hundred thousand independent company reviews to evaluate levels of employee bliss in the following categories: growth opportunity, compensation, benefits, work-life balance, career advancement, senior management, job security and whether the employee would recommend the company to others. The submissions are from users that visit CareerBliss.com and provide insights regarding their current and previous employers. According to the BlissIndex, the military is rated especially highly in the areas of growth opportunity, benefits, job security and career advancement. Rick Wainschel, Vice-President of CareerBliss says, It was interesting to see how well the military ranked relative to many top-tier corporations. After reviewing the comments from hundreds of reviews,

it was clear our military service members not only take pride in serving and protecting our country, but find a deep sense of personal accomplishment in the important work that they do. The US Army and the Army National Guard ranked number one and number two, respectively, out of all places of employment in career advancement, topping corporations such as Google and PricewaterhouseCoopers. CareerBliss also found that, on average, military members are happier with their benefit packages than employees in companies such as General Electric and Qualcomm. Sample reviews from over one thousand military members in 2010: Serving in the Army offered the ultimate job security, not to mention an unmatched benefits package. It was also a good source of gaining valuable technical and real life experience. US Army Network Administrator Fort Stewart, Ga. It has taught me life lessons you cant learn anywhere else. US Army Combat Engineer, Indiana, Pa. Bradley Brummel, PhD, a Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at The University of Tulsa and a member of the CareerBliss advisory board says, Despite challenges that may occur when serving our country, including the possibility of going to war, the military provides many of the essential elements to finding happiness at work, including having a meaningful impact on the world, having true camaraderie with your coworkers, and having the opportunities to develop skills. Corporate America could learn from our militarys unique programs.

The bottom line is that when a company provides opportunities to grow and tools to improve skills, it creates a happier work environment, says Rick Wainschel, Vice-President of CareerBliss.
