Statement of purpose

I wish to introduce myself as Aan Daisy Kuriakose, a prospective student aspiring to pursue my Masters in Information Technology majoring in Computer Networks from La Trobe University. As a young woman in this age of rapidly developing information technology, I am glad that this has created precious opportunities for us. With all these, I have also cultivated my optimistic view of life, enhanced my awareness of teamwork and leadership qualities. I believe that those qualities are very much required in this era. My artistic abilities together with the rationalities in computer science have made it possible for me to develop a character of pluralism, endowing me with a healthy personality. I am ever so grateful to my parents for having endowed me with versatile talents, joys of life and the best education. My family at the time of my grandparents gave importance to agriculture and animal husbandry. It was from my fathers generation that education became prior to everything. And then on I had my family members in the engineering and medical profession who became my role models. They encouraged me to study with all interests especially my brother who was the rank holder in all his endeavours. As a school student, I have had the best of everything. I was sent to an English medium school affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education which can be called the most standard board of education in my country. Throughout my childhood I have been fascinated by computers and computer games. Even I was taught basic programming languages as a part of work experience in my high school. And hence I did not have any second thought while I was given the chance to select my group for secondary education. Simple hospital management software was the first computer science project I had undertaken. It was part of my second year project in secondary school and I had all the key components like Databases and Business logic to model the various transactions possible. This was my first opportunity to implement my own logic. It was during this time that my interest in computers had truly taken a leap and when I first seriously started considering computer science as my career. Even I scored an excellent score of ninety percent for the same during my secondary education. I went on to pursue my Bachelors of Computer Application from Amrita University which was one among the most reputed universities. During my three years here, I was introduced to several interesting subjects like Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Networking, Operating Systems and Cryptography. This helped me build a good foundation which serves me later on. Here, I found that I had developed a keen interest towards Data Structures, Object-Oriented Programming and Computer Networks. As a part of my coursework, I had a minor and a major project in Web Applications which provided me skills in developing software and function effectively in project teams. Through avid reading of books in Computer Networks, I have sustained my interest in the

field. Thus I was exposed to application layer technologies, protocols and the communication over network. Along with my academic life, I have always tried to carve out some time for myself. Whether in school or college, I believe it is absolutely necessary to engage oneself in leisurely activities to encourage overall personality development and personal growth. As a result, I have been an active participant in extra-curricular activities throughout my life as an artist. In the future, I see myself as person who can contribute to advancements in network engineering and consultancy with increased computing power. To achieve this I would be interested in gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies in the area of Information Technology and Networks. The Master of Information Technology majoring in Computer Networks would equip me with specialised skills and knowledge in the areas of data communication and networks, application protocol and network engineering. The distinguishing feature of this course is the combination of core and specialised subjects, which would provide me with the skills to work in network administration areas and get my dreams fulfilled. Apart from a strong faculty and a nurturing environment, La Trobe University can offer me a balanced mix of academic work and industry experience which I believe will help me develop superb hands-on abilities and problem-solving skills. By immersing myself in my future master program, I will acquire the most updated computer technology. In addition, as an oriental, I will be able to perfect my character by assimilating what is useful out of my experience of the Australian culture, science and technology. In the face of potential challenges, I am full of determination and optimism. I still feel there is scope for further improvement, a need to further build up on the strong foundation that I had acquired in college and using this in fulfilling my urge to make a lasting contribution to the field. My goal is to come back to my country with adequate knowledge and experience so as to harness my expertise in this rapidly advancing field. I write to you with the earnest that my background and qualifications will be found suitable for admission.
