Massimiliano Colasuonno manages the new venture alongside his cousin, Agata Taricone. Just like his uncle, Ernesto, he came to visit the family in 2002 and was instantly enamoured with Ghana. After a couple more visits, he too stayed and embraced his familys philosophy: Love for Ghana. PHILOSOPHY Our familys key philosophy is the love for Ghana, Massimiliano explains. In fact when a new business proposal is brought before the Chairman (my uncle), his first reaction is: how does it benefit Ghana, the people, the Ghanaian environment? With a large family of Ghanaians and Italians, it is imperative we always think of ways to develop our homeland. HISTORY In 1968 a young man named Ernesto Taricone arrived in Ghana. Charmed by the beautiful, developing country, he fell in love, stayed put and never left. After his father passed away, he took over the reins of the family business, which included pharmaceutical, furniture and quarry industries at the time. Surviving the revolution that took place in 1979 and the resulting years of lack of business opportunities, 41 years on Ernesto is today the Chairman of the TRASACCO Group of Companies, head of a growing family that considers itself more Ghanaian than not (Ernestos wife is Ghanaian), and provides jobs for over 4,000 Ghanaians.

In your opinion, what constitutes good design? Harmonious lines, aesthetic simplicity, functionality. What are some of the brands you currently have at Casa Trasacco? STOSA, ARISTON, KLER, EUROPEO and MD-HOUSE. Which is your favourite item at the Casa Trasacco showroom? Not so much an Item, but the total atmosphere. Favourite Chair? My Grandmother's chair which I still use. What is the best design advice you have ever received? Design should live according to you; you do not need to live according to the design.

After studying in Italy and working in the furniture industry for over 20 years, Casa Trasacco is in Massimilianos capable hands. From Korea to the States and down to Australia, he worked as a furniture contractor, usually the one to call when there is a problem to be solved. Most of his clients were large hotels that required specific types of furniture, and it was Massimilianos job to find them and at the best price available. All those years of experience has served him well, finding and sourcing the right mix of products that will appeal to their Casa Trasacco clientele. The Casa Trasacco Project objectives are: the Showroom, Franchise and Production. The first phase was the construction and opening of the showroom in Ghana. The second phase of the 3-part project is franchising. Casa Trasacco is a franchise project available to African businessmen who would wish to set up similar companies all over Africa, perfectly suited for individuals who wish to go into business for themselves but not by themselves. Casa Trasacco will give you their experience and expertise, in essence replicating the same brand and philosophy of local empowerment wherever you desire within Africa. The third phase builds off of the Casa Trasacco philosophy, which is a Love for Ghana. We are urgent to see similar and even better quality furniture with a Made in Ghana stamp. Agreements with factories are on the table and very soon, it will be easy to proudly talk about Ghanaian Made, Ghanaian Design, and Ghanaian Quality, which will be available for export worldwide. This will create many more jobs for Ghanaians and lessen Ghanas dependence on imported furniture.
