Job Description Position Title: Boat Captain/ Driver/Logistics Assistant Reporting to: Guyana Red Cross Society Project Coordinator (PC) French Red Cross Head of Delegation (FRC HOD) Job Location: Region 1 (Mabaruma and Moruca) 70% travel in the sub-district communities
Purpose: The Guyana Red Cross Society in collaboration with the French Red Cross (FRC) seeks two qualified and motivated Boat captain/Driver/Logistique assistant to support a European Commission ACP EU Water Facility and FRC funded Project. The Improved, water, sanitation and hygiene conditions for Hinterland communities project is carrying out in the Moruca and Mabaruma Sub-districts of Region 1 for a period of 45 months and within 28 Amerindian communities. One position is open for each of the sub-districts, one in Mabaruma and one in Moruca offices and is for a period of 1 year renewable. The Boat Captain/Driver/Logistics Assistant will work closely with the Hygiene Promotion team and the Watsan Hardware team (4 members). He or she will be responsible for transporting materials, project staff and or staff of the Guyana Red Cross Society in the Projects Boat along river ways in region 1. He or she will also need to carry out basic support functions for the office, such as assistance in the office and field. General duties applicable to all: Uphold the principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement Work towards the achievement of the project goals through effective lateral relations and teamwork Ensure understanding of roles; responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities Specific Duties and Responsibilities Transport Project Staff and materials using Boat to communities in Region 1. Understand and comply with Red Cross Movement fundamental principles, in addition to assisting volunteers and other staff in understanding and complying with the principles. Participate in any training workshops organized by the GRCS to improve the knowledge of staff. Be ready to assist the GRC PC, GRCS staff and FRC staff with other tasks not specifically mentioned above. Job Requirements and Qualifications Required: Good knowledge of surrounding communities. Must possess a valid boat pilot license and at least 3-5 years experience in navigating along rivers in region 1. The candidate should possess basic knowledge of boat engine operation.
