Job Description Position Title: Field Officer -Hygiene Promotion and Community Participation Assistant Reporting to: Guyana Red Cross Society Project Coordinator (PC) and French Red Cross Head of Delegation (FRC HOD) Job Location: Region 1 (Mabaruma and Moruca) with 70% travel in the subdistrict communities

Purpose: The Guyana Red Cross Society in collaboration with the French Red Cross (FRC) seeks a qualified and motivated Hygiene Promotion and Community Participation Assistant Field Officer to support a European Commission ACP EU Water Facility and FRC funded Project. The Improved, water, sanitation and hygiene conditions for Hinterland communities project is carrying out in the Moruca and Mabaruma Sub-districts of Region 1 for a period of 45 months and within 28 Amerindian communities. The Hygiene Promotion Assistant will work closely with the Hygiene Promotion Officer (HPCP) to manage the community participation, hygiene promotion and software aspects of the project in addition to lending support to the hardware aspect of the project when necessary. He or she will also need to carry out basic support functions for the office, such as purchasing, reporting etc. The Hygiene Promotion Assistant will work with Hygiene Promotion Officer and two other field officers to supervise a group of up to 30 volunteers and represent the GRCS in meetings with relevant stakeholders in the region. The position is open for the Mabaruma and Moruca Branch Offices and is for the period of 37 months. General duties applicable to all: Uphold the principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement. Work towards the achievement of the project goals through effective lateral relations and teamwork. Ensure understanding of roles; responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities. Build up an atmosphere of respect and trust within the project team. Build and maintain effective professional working relationships with government authorities, humanitarian/development organizations and community members. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Hygiene Promotion Officer in the correct implementation of the PHAST (participative hygiene and sanitation transformation) and CLTS (community led total sanitation) methodologies in the project villages Assist in the design and implementation of the hygiene promotion program and materials based on the outputs of the PHAST & CLTS programmes methodologies Assist in the supervision and monitoring of volunteers (up to 30) involved in the project. Regular field visits to the target villages in the region will be an important part of this task. Assist in the basic financial, admin and logistics tasks (purchasing, etc) at the base level as directed by the GRCS project coordinator (PC) and in collaboration with the finance and logistics officer (FinLog) located in Georgetown. Assist in the organisation and implementation of training for community volunteers, including the areas of, PHAST, CLTS, hygiene promotion, WASH technical training, water committee training, etc. Assist in the monthly field reporting for the project is correctly implemented including data entry and analysis. Understand and comply with Red Cross Movement fundamental principles, in addition to assisting volunteers and other staff in understanding and complying with the principles. Participate in any training workshops organized by the GRCS PC to improve the knowledge of staff.

Be ready to assist the GRC PC, , GRCS staff and FRC staff with other tasks not specifically mentioned above. Job Requirements and Qualifications Required: Excellent communication skills (empathy, knowledge sharing, participative approach methodologies) Experience in community development, health, social mobilisation in the humanitarian/development field. Practical experience in implementing projects with community participation and volunteer support. At least 3 CXC subjects, including Math and English. Basic knowledge of computers would be an asset Good planning, reporting and organization skills.
