My main ambition in life is to become a psychologist.

Since an early age I have had a strong curiosity about the science of behaviour. I have always wondered what makes people behave and react in the way that they do. Pursuing a career in which I would have the opportunity to observe and analyse people would give me great satisfaction. As I am a naturally caring person, having the ability to assist individuals in need of help would be extremely rewarding for me. In school I am studying Biology and Home Economics both at Honours level. I think that having a good knowledge in these subjects would considerably contribute to my understanding of the course. I have done a substantial amount of research on psychology and have completed a full Career Investigation on it for my LCVP Link Modules portfolio. I have also attended the information evening about it. I believe that my observational and communication skills would be beneficial in the practice of psychology. I hope to some day become qualified by the British Psychological Society and be a practicing psychologist. I regularly babysit for neighbours and relatives and I find it interesting to observe the changes in behaviour of the children as they get older. I do not have a job at present as I am dedicated to my schoolwork but I have worked for a couple of months last year in my local Costcutters store. I worked at the tills and constantly interacted with customers, fellow employees and my employers. This helped me to develop my communication skills and I found it rewarding. I was a trustworthy employee and resigned from my part-time job on friendly terms. I have also completed 3 days work experience with The Donegal News for my LCVP Link Modules portfolio. I extremely enjoyed meeting and working with the journalists and editors and I made connections while I was there. I had a few of my own articles published in the paper while I was gaining my work experience. I continued to have several articles published after I had completed the work experience. I have attended 2 summer drama courses in An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny and another drama course in The Balor Theatre, Ballybofey. Drama interests me as it plays on different peoples characters and how people interact with each other in society. I made good friends at these courses and I really enjoyed the experience. They gave me even more confidence than I already had! I am very passionate about music and have achieved up to grade 4 in the Irish Academy of Music exams. I have played the drums since I was 10 years old and have recently started learning to play the guitar. I played the drums in the orchestra for my schools musical The King and I and I had a great time working with the other musicians. I am currently pursuing musical projects with 2 separate artists and enjoy writing songs and performing on stage. I love reading books in my spare time. I also love to travel and have travelled abroad with my family from a very young age. I have been to Jamaica, Spain, Portugal, Austria, England, Scotland, and have been to both Italy and France several times. I lived in New York for the first ten years of my life and spent holidays travelling across the United States. I think that travelling and meeting so many different people has really broadened my mind and made me non-judgemental. I think the fact that I dont judge anyone is a crucial quality I have which is necessary in the practice of psychology.

I feel that I would be a breath of fresh air to your university and would fully commit to my fulltime course in Psychology. I am extremely determined to become a psychologist and feel that I will be very successful in this career.
