About Summer Science Nights
Our Summer Science Nights are a great way to enrich your childs understanding of science in the best laboratory of all the great outdoors. Each session includes hands-on, minds-on activities and an action-packed hike on one of our wildlife-rich preserves. Date/Time: Wednesdays in June and Thursdays in July All classes from 6 PM - 8 PM Classes: June 15 & July 14 | Moonstruck: The Dynamic Moon

The Katy Prairie is just such a place and the Katy Prairie Conservancy is working hard to keep it that way for you and all Texans forever.

June 22 & July 21 | Bug Talk: World of Insect Communication June 30 & July 28 | Prairie Dogs: Coyotes, Foxes, and Wolves, oh my! Location: All classes held at Indiangrass Preserve Audience: Classes are designed for 5 - 10 year olds. Registration extremely limited. See page 3 for details on how to register.

Your evening adventure awaits...
The Katy Prairie is a place for big adventures. In the cool of the evening you are sure to spot wildlife moving about and witness spectacular sunsets. If youre ready to explore this shadowy world of adventure then our Summer Science Nights are for you! Well play games, do crafts, run simple experiments, and take fun-lled hikes to discover some of the sensational science behind the prairies wildlife and history.

Moonstruck - June 15th & July 14th


The moon may look like just another big rock in space but it has had an amazing history. Well explore some of the huge forces that shaped the moon by simulating lava ows and meteor impacts. Well also learn to identify major features of the moon with the naked eye and discover how the moon affects animals.

Bug Talk - June 22nd & July 21st


Insects use chirps, squeaks, rattles, hums, ashes, and smells (both pleasant and not) to talk to one another. Join our insect band as we pop, scrape, whistle our way into a better Firefly appreciation of insect communication using common household items and games.

Prairie Dogs - June 29th & July 28th


Theres nothing more thrilling, or wild, than hearing the howling or yipping of a wild dog! The Katy Prairie is home to several cousins of the family pet, including coyotes and two types of foxes. It was also once home to the red wolves.
Gray Fox Coyote or Prairie Wolf

Experience life as a wild dog by trying to sniff out prey, nd your place in your wolf pack, and even discover why a wet nose is better than a dry one!
