INTRODUCTION

We are a group of 11 Nigerians running PhD programs at the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, South Africa. There is a South African alternate to our group- a group of 7 South Africans, also running PhD programs in the same school. Our group (Group Nigeria), as well that of our South African colleagues (Group SA), is running its research in nuclear engineering management. South Africa, as you would know, is currently the only African state successfully running a nuclear power plant. The North-West University (NWU) is the leading South African university in nuclear engineering research; and is at the forefront of the collaboration between the South African nuclear energy industry and the academia. Our course leaders are Prof Johan Fick; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, NWU and Prof Piet Stoker, Head, CRCED. Prof Stoker also doubles as the South African representative on the EU nuclear.

OUR RESEARCH AREAS The table below captures the names and research areas of the researchers in the Group Nigeria.
NAME 1 Olamide Babalola RESEARCH TOPIC A social responsibility framework for nuclear power projects : a government imperative A framework for localization opportunities for a first build nuclear power plant in a developing country A generic model for predicting overnight cost of nuclear plant in developing countries. Framework for nuclear power deployment in developing countries from an electrical grid perspective A sustainable manpower framework for a developing country s first nuclear power project Structuring nuclear power projects for success: a framework for developing countries The systematic risk and capital cost challenges with nuclear power deployment in a typical emerging economy: Nigeria as a case study The way a developing country should resolve the go nuclear? question from the affordability of nuclear policy point of view

THE BENEFITS OF OUR RESEARCH WORK TO NIGERIA

We are a unique group of students. Our research efforts focus on the different key areas that matter to a country preparing to deploy its first nuclear power solution. Nigeria is our adopted case study. As a result, Nigeria stands to benefit from our research in following ways; y The outcomes of our researches will play major roles in reinforcing the importance of nuclear power as a veritable option to meeting Nigeria s medium to long term power demands. (See details in the appendix.) We are working in conjunction with Group SA, and therefore can leverage on this unique relationship to make our research more meaningful to the benefit of Nigeria. Our research efforts and outcomes will enhance the development of the Nigerian nuclear knowledge base thereby bridging the nuclear knowledge gap. At the appropriate time in the course of our research, we can initiate and support efforts to correct the misconceptions about nuclear power and disabuse the populace by giving the nuclear industry more visibility by way of academic publications, appropriate use of social and other media etc.

OUR REQUESTS Knowing your key roles in the Nigerian nuclear industry; we would like to y y bring the existence of our unique group to your attention; and to be provided with assistance where necessary, especially with regards to your library and other information resources
