SUPPLICATIONS

for removing depression and anxiety

The following dua has been related from the Messenger (upon whom be peace) for protection against laziness among other problems:
. Allhummainnacdhubikaminal-ajziwal-kasliwal-jubniwal-haramiwal-bukhli, waa'udhbika min adhabilqabri, waa'udhubikafitnatilmahyawalmamat.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from the torments of grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trials and tribulations of life and death.

It is narrated in many ahadeeth that the Prophet (salAllahualayhiwasallam) would consistently make this duaa, and many of the Companions heard him repeat it over and over.

Allahummainniaudhubikaminal-hammiwal- azaniwal-ajaziwal-kasaliwalbukhliwal-jubniwa alaid-dayniwaghalabatir-rijal.

O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice,theburdenof debts and from being overpowered by men.[Sahih al-Bukhari 7:158]

Allhummainna dhubika min al-hammiwa al-hazan. Waa dhubika min al- ajziwa al-kasal.

Waadhubika min al-jubniwa al-bukhl. Waadhubika min ghalabat id-dayniwaqahrir-rijal. {Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from overpowering of debt and from oppression of men.}

Thisduaa is narrated by the Prophet (salAllahualayhiwasallam) as one of the Dawaat al Makroob, the supplications of the distressed.

Allahummarahmatakaarjufalaatakilniilanafsitarfata ayninwaaslih li shanikullahu la ilahaila anta

O Allah, it is Your mercy that I hope for, so do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for a blink of an eye, and rectify for me all of my affairs. None has the right to be worshiped except You.

There is a du'a that Rasoolullah (Peace be upon him) used to make, which includes:

Allahummainneeauthubika min al-'ajziwal-kasal"

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from inactivity* and laziness"

Hadis reported by Abu Rashid Al-Habarani who says: "I visited Abdullah ibnAmr (a learned companion of the Prophet) and said to him: 'Tell us something you heard from the Prophet.' He gave me a sheet and said: 'The Prophet ordered this to be written for me.' I looked at it and read that Abu Bakr asked the Prophet to teach him something to say in the morning and evening. The Prophet said: 'Abu Bakr, say:

"Allahumma 'aalima al-ghaybwal-shahaadah, fatira al-samaawaatiwal-ardh, kullushay'inbikaffik. Ashhaduan la ilahailla ant. A'oozubika min sharrinafsi, wa min sharri al-Shaytanwasharakih, wa an aqtarifaalanafsisoo'an aw ajurrahuila Muslim."
My Lord, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, who knows what lies beyond the reach of human perception and what is witnessed, You are the Lord and owner of everything. I seek Your shelter against the evil that is in my soul and the evil of Satan and his tricks. And I seek Your protection from perpetrating harm to myself, or causing it to another Muslim." (Related by Al-Bukhari in Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Al-Nassaie, Abu Dawood and Al-Tirmidhi).

Allahummayamuqalliba al-qulubthabbitqalbi 'aladinika.

O Allah, O You Who are the twister of hearts, so make my heart firm and steadfast on Your religion

.
Allhummaijallisn miram bi-dhikrikawaqalb bi-khashyatika.
{Oh Allah! Make my tongue full of Your remembrance, and my heart with consciousness of You.}

;
Allahummainniunzilabikahaajatiwa-in qasuurarubbiwadu'fa 'amaliiftaqartuillaRahmatika
O Allah! I ask You to answer my needs, though my intellect is weak, and my actions are defective, O Allah! I am in need of Your Mercy

HasbiyAllahuwani'malwakeel
Allah is my availer and protector and the best of aids.

Rabbi innimaghloobun fan-tass-ssir

O Allah! I am overpowered, so help me.[surah al-Qamar, 54:10] This was the du'a of sayyidnaNuh (alayhissalam) after 950 years of preaching to a stubborn people.

Allahummainnias'alukal 'afuwawal-afiya
O Allah! I seek your forgiveness and well being (meaning in examination, memory, and concentration etc)

In al-Saheehayn it was reported from Ibn Abbaas that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, when he felt distressed:

La ilaaha ill-Allaah al-Azeemul-Haleem, Laailaaha ill-AllaahRabbil-arshil-azeem, Laailaaha ill-AllaahRabb is-samawaatiwaRabbil-ardwaRabbil-arshil-kareem

(There is no god except Allaah, the All-Mighty, the Forbearing; there is no god except Allaah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne; there is no god except Allaah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the noble Throne)

And it was reported from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, when something upset him: YaaHayyuyaaQayyoom, bi Rahmatikaastagheeth (O Ever-Living One, O Everlasting One, by Your mercy I seek help)

And it was reported that Asmaa bint Umays (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to me: Shall I not teach you some words to say when you feel distressed?

Allaah, Allaah, Rabbeelaaushrikubihishayan

(Allaah, Allaah, my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him).

It was reported from Abd-AllaahibnMas ood that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and says:

Allaahummainnee abdukawaibn abdikawaibnamatika, naasiyati bi yadika, maadinfiyyahukmuka, adlunfiyyaqadaauka, asaluka bi kulliisminhuwalakasammaytabihinafsaka aw anzaltahu fi kitaabika aw allamtahuahadan min khalqika aw istathartabihi fi ilmil-ghaybi andak an tajala al-Quraanarabee qalbiwanoorsadriwajalaaahuzniwadhahaabahammi
(O Allaah, I am Your slave, son of Your slave, son of Your female slave, my forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or You taught to any of Your creation, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur aan the life of my heart and the light of my chest, and a departure for my sorrow and a release for my anxiety) - but Allaah will take away his sorrow and grief, and give him in their stead joy.

Solution for Wasawis Once the Sahaaba (RadiAllaahuanhum) described this ambition to Nabisallallaahu 'alayhiwasallam for which he prescribed the cure in four steps: First: The termination of evil noughts by completely shunning and forgetting them until they do not exist and then occupying oneself away from these thoughts with balanced thinking. Second: Seek refuge in Allaah from these evil thoughts and from the accursed Shaytaan. Third: He should say, I believe in Allaah and his Messengers. Fourth: He should say, Allaah is one, Allaah is independent, He does not give birth nor was he given birth to, there is none comparable to Him, spit to his left side thrice and say, "I seek refuge in Allaah from the cursed Shaytaan."
