Lesson Planning Waynesburg University Writing the lesson plan: Translating thoughts into a plan of action _____________________________________________

Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s) addressed during this lesson: (Provide Standard number and statement) Academic Standards for Mathematics 2.1.8.A. Represent and use numbers in equivalent forms (e.g., integers, fractions, decimals, percents, exponents, scientific notation, square roots). Academic Standards for the Arts and Humanities 9.1.8.E. Communicate a unifying theme or point of view through the production of works in the arts. ISTE: 2. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students: a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media b. communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats. Lesson Objective(s) (Stated in observable and measurable terms) Students will be able to create a Prezi to show how to write a Fraction in Simplest Form. Students will successfully create a Prezi with 80% compliance to the rubric. Assessment Plan (What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?) Students will be use the rubric as a checklist for completion. Students will give peer reviews for other students Prezis. Students will be to upload their Prezi to the class web site. Materials: The students will need their books, folders, notebooks, pencils, Fractions Packet, Prezi software and computer. Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs: The lesson will initially be presented in the computer room with teacher modeling. Then all students will have hands-on in the computer room as well as the students with special needs will be able to use the resource room or attend the computer tutoring sessions. Enrichment Techniques: The lesson will initially be presented in the computer room. Then the students who need enrichment will be able to work more independently. Students may be required to complete the project to show how to use the Sieve of Eratosthenes.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students have access to and are able to participate in the lesson): Students will have access to their packet: Number Theory, the Ladder Method, and Fractions, the notes from the lecture, and their peers. Students who still have trouble will be able to work with peer tutors or come for extra computer time. Students will be able to ask any of the adults in the room after they: Ask three before me.

Students will have time in the resource room or after school computer sessions if needed. Students will have an opportunity to work with their peer tutors.

Lesson Presentation
Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set: Today we are going to use Prezi to illustrate how to use Fractions in Simplest Form. We will use our knowledge of the Ladder Method to make the numerator and denominator Relatively Prime. Detailed Teaching Sequence: (Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted statements are preferred)

Students will review the Ladder Method from their notes. Students will list the components for their Prezi. Students will watch the teacher create a Prezi layout. Students will watch the teacher create a few of the components to her layout and add details. Teacher will show an example of a finished Prezi.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

Closure:

Students will create a Prezi Layout Students will add all necessary text and graphics to each component. Students will add color to each component. Students will ask at least three peers for constructive criticism. Students will upload their Prezi to the class web site.

Students will be able to use describe the steps they took to create their Prezi. Students will be to upload their Prezi to the class web site and access the Prezis of their peers.
