Ibnu Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, reported: INSIDE THIS ISSUE: A-Z Steps To Leadership MUSA AGM 1 The Prophet (may peace be upon him) said: Every one of you is a caretaker, and is responsible for his consignment. The ruler is a caretaker of people and is responsible for his consignment. A man is a caretaker of his family and is responsible for them. 2 A woman is a caretaker of her husbands house and children, and is responsible for them. A slave is a caretaker of his masters property and is responsible for it. New MUSA Committee 3 All of you are caretakers and all of you are responsible for their consignment. [Bukhari and Muslim]

Watch out for 3 the arrows! Sisters: Poems 4 Ability Let there become of you a nation that shall call for righteousness, enjoin justice and forbid evil. Such men will surely triumph. [3:104] Calmness The strong man is not the one who overcomes others by his strength, but the one who, though angry, controls himself. [Bukhari] Dependability Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their promises...are the heirs of Paradise; they shall abide in it forever. [23:8] Fairness We gave sent our messengers with explanations and sent the scriptures and the scales of justice down with them, so that men may conduct themselves with fairness. [57:25] Genuineness A person is perfect in his religion (Islam) when he leaves alone that which does not concern him. [at-Tirmidhi] Honesty You who believe, heed God and stand by those who are truthful. [9:119] There are three signs of a hypocrite: when he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he does not keep it; when he is trusted, he betrays. [Abu Huraira narrated] Initiative Every magnificent and important project not begun with the praise of Allah, remains defective. [abu Dawud] Judgment Whenever you judge between people, you should do so with fairness. [4:58] Knowledge Do not be quick to recite the Qur'an before its revelation has been accomplished, but rather say: "Lord, increase my knowledge." [20:114]

Modesty Now whatever ye have been given is but a passing comfort for the life of the world, and that which Allah hath is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord. [4:36] Nobility O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise each other). Verily the most honored of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things). [49:13]

Responsibility Each one of you is a Guardian and responsible for those of whom he is in charge. The Ruler is a Guardian and thus responsible for his subjects. A man is the Guardian of his family and is responsible for those under his care. In like manner, each one of you is a guardian and is responsible for what he is entrusted with. [Bukhari & Muslim] Sacrifice Ye will not attain unto piety until ye spend of that which ye love. And whatsoever ye spend, Allah is aware thereof. [3:92] Teamwork And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favor on you; for ye

were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided. [3:103] Faithful believers are to each other as the bricks of a wall, supporting and reinforcing each other. So saying, the Prophet Muhammad clasped his hands by interlocking his fingers. [Bukhari] Understanding And this is a blessed Scripture which We have revealed. So follow it and ward off (evil), that ye may find mercy. [6:155]

MUSA Annual General Meeting

Alhamdulillah, last Saturday MUSA Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been successfully held. It took place at the Al-Huda Masjid and started around 1.45pm till 3.30pm. While waiting for the brothers to turn up and complete the quorum for AGM, Syeikh Gamal conducted a quick Quran class with the brothers. About 34 brothers attended the AGM. The meeting started off with presentation from MUSA 2006/07 ex-President, brother Mujeeb. He presented an overall view of MUSA activities through out the year, including his suggestions and hopes for the new MUSA committee. Then it was continued by quick presentation from all MUSA ex-officers. Next, there was a session for all MUSA members to raise any issue regarding the Muslim community in Dunedin. There were a lot of new ideas and suggestions had been given by the brothers. One of the brothers suggest to made more effort in doing dawah to nonMuslims in Dunedin. For example, a special publication targeted at non-Muslims and activities with Christians student association might be possible. We at MUSA are keen on this, and really hope that other Muslim brothers and sisters in Dunedin will together contribute to turn the suggestion into reality. We are more than happy to accept volunteers for our coming activities, and the good news is, everyone is welcome! There is only 3 months left before Islam Awareness Week 2007. The date has been confirmed, it is going to be held from 13th to 19th August 2007. So, come on brothers and sisters! We hope to see more new faces in the IAW committee this year...
One of the main problem of having such big numbers of Muslims in a society is everyone will start doing their own job in their own comfort zone. For example, Malaysians will be with Malaysians, Saudis will be with Saudis, Indonesians will be with Indonesians and Egyptians will be with Egyptians. (quote from a brother during AGM) Whats your opinion about it ???

Versatility When you see a person seeking an object earnestly, assist him to attain his ends. And never ask for a reward except that given by Allah. [hadith of ash-Shifa] Zeal When three people set out on a journey, they should appoint one of them as a leader. [abu Dawud]

Watch out for the arrows!

Oh, what a beautiful day. Twenty-two degrees Celsius; a clear sky; the sun passionately declaring its warmth to the land below. I put on my cap and decide to go out for a walk. Moments later, I come across two scantily dressed girls, enjoying the wonderful weather. Nervously, I look down towards the cement sidewalk and walk past them. I look up, only to encounter a couple, rollerblading towards me in the most fashionable, spandex exercise gear. I fidget with my cap using it to shield myself from obscenity and continue walking. With my head down and cap covering my view, it was bound to happen some time: I walk into a lamppost and hit my head! As I lay on the sidewalk recovering from the accident, I hear a male voice asking me, Are you alright? As I open my eyes to figure out what is going on, I see a bare-chested man, jogging in position, offering his hand to help me get up. Subhan-Allah, what a day! I get up, run home, go to my room, and close my door. How am I expected to survive in such a filthy environment? Am I supposed to isolate myself from the society to escape such temptations??? No. Obviously, with every trial and difficulty Allah always provides us practical defensive tools. Keep in mind, though, that the command to control our eyes is not just a fatwa of some conservative scholar from the East. It is explicitly expressed in the words of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

SISTERS
HEART TOUCHING POEMS (By our Sisters from around the world...reminding us of what we might have forgotten. Sisters of Dunedin: Please be creative and write some stories and poems of your own to be published!)

Hadith of the week "Some people asked Allah's Apostle, "Whose Islam is the best? i.e. (Who is a very good Muslim)?" He replied, "One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands. [Bukhari] Quiz of the week
-NO CHEATING-

No Time
I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work For bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer, And jumped up off my knees. My Muslim duty was now done My soul could rest at ease. All day long I had no time To spread a word of cheer. No time to speak of Allah to friends, They'd laugh at me I'd fear. No time, no time, too much to do, That was my constant cry, No time to give to souls in need But at last the time, the time to die. I went before the Lord, I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands God held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said Your name I cannot find. I once was going to write it down... But never found the time

Isn't The Woman there My Sister? Isn't the woman there my sister? in Islam, I mean to say For I just took my shahadah at the masjid here today Isn't the woman there my sister? I openly ask without any qualms The one who just walked past me Without offering me her salaams Isn't the woman there my sister? Though she stands alone to pray Each time I move to touch her shoulder She takes a step and pulls away Isn't the woman there my sister? the lady that is not of my race, for both of us are muslim women with varied hues making up our face Isn't the woman there my sister? Who laughed and made fun of me And those other sisters of mine who listened Doesn't their silence make them also guilty Isn't the woman there my sister? Who didn't call me when I was sick For she seems to only show concern for those special sisters, in her own click Isn't the woman there my sister? Don't we both love our religion - this Deen? Then why am I sharing my lament About her being uncaring, indifferent and mean? Isn't the woman there my sister? Won't she open up and try to treasure The love I want and need to share with her As we both seek Allah's Merciful Pleasure

What English word retains the same pronunciation, even after you take away four of its five letters Answer to be revealed next week*
