FAQ

Preps 5.1 FAQ

Preps 5.1 will be available on April 4, 2005.

What's new in the Preps 5.1 release?

JDF import Preps 5.1 now imports JDF (job definition format) files and uses them to start and accelerate the jobcreation process. JDF files provide accurate data and remove some potential mistakes from the workflow. Preps can use the information in a JDF file to construct the signature list, the run list or both. Preps can import JDF files from a management information system (MIS) using JDF stripping parameters. All imposition information specified during estimating can be passed to Preps to determine the correct template or signature to use. If no suitable signature can be found, Preps automatically creates signature placeholders, which you can resolve manually. Preps can also export JDF (using the JDF imposition process) back to any MIS that can process JDF files in a compatible manner, so any imposition information missing from the initial estimate can be appended to the MIS records. When you import a JDF file, Preps attempts to automatically associate a matching signature to the job.

Automatic and manual signature resolution When you import a JDF file, Preps attempts to automatically associate a matching signature to the job, based on information contained in the JDF file. If no suitable signatures can be found due to insufficient information, Preps automatically creates signature placeholders for you to resolve.

Xerox RDO PDF support Preps 5.1 XL or Pro can import, impose, and print RDO PDF source files to a Xerox FreeFlow 2.0/DigiPath 4.1 or 5 workflow.

Marks editor enhancements Available text mark variables now also include $signame (signature name)
