FROM OUR PASTOR

This is the first Sunday of my vacation and I will be with my family in England, although in many ways I wish I could be with you because it is Corpus Christi, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ which celebrates the great gift which preserves the presence of Jesus Christ in our churches and in our lives. Every time I walk into Saint Charles Borromeo I give thanks for the former Pastors who placed the Blessed Sacrament at the heart of our church. Its easy to take that for granted until you visit other Florida churches and have to hunt around to find the Blessed Sacrament. In many of them the tabernacle is set off to one side or in a completely separate chapel not visible and not easily accessible from the main church. I suppose those architects wanted to make the point that the altar is the center of the church - and that is true when Mass is being celebrated and the community is present. Yet when we come to church on our own it is a deep seated Catholic instinct which leads us to seek the tabernacle so that we can pray in the presence of the Lord. At Saint Charles the tabernacle is well lit so that it is a natural focus of devotion as we prepare for Mass; and the design of the chapel behind the tabernacle provides a perfect place for quiet prayer at any time. We keep the church open from about 7:30 in the morning to 5 in the evening (except Sunday evenings) so it is easy to experience the special blessing of prayer in the presence of Jesus; and do not forget that we have adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, exposed in the monstrance, in the chapel every Friday from after the 9:00 am Mass until noon. This weekend you will be joined by Father Francis, a missionary priest from the Diocese of Jinja in Uganda, East Africa. Once a year the Diocese of Orlando invites missionaries to visit each parish to make an annual appeal for their work in mission territories (parishes, orphanages, schools, hospitals) and at the same time to make us more aware of the worldwide Church. It is very appropriate that Father Francis comes to us at Corpus Christi when Saint Paul reminds us in the second reading Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Whether we are in a comfortable church in Orlando, in a small church in the English countryside or in a roughly constructed mission church in Africa, we are united as brothers and sisters in the Body of Christ and we all receive the same gift of Jesus Himself.

Despite her limited resources, the Church of Jinga has been able to make some progress in rehabilitating the Diocese. This has been possible because the political situation in Uganda has improved a great deal over the past several years. We just concluded a relatively peaceful election on the 18th of February. We are always mindful that the Churchs work is both spiritual and material. Our people look to the Church as the Good Samaritan of the Gospel, and we look to friends such as you to make this parable existential.

OFFICE CLOSED FRIDAY, July 1st and MONDAY, JULY 4th May your holiday weekend be a safe one! Let us pray for all who seek the freedom we enjoy.
The parish office will reopen Tuesday, July 5th, 7:30am to 3:30pm.

All contributions, no matter the size, are most appreciated.

HOW DO I BECOME A CATHOLIC?

Are you interested in learning more

about the Catholic faith? Would you like to become a Catholic? Do you know someone who may be interested?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is a process of conversion and initiation in the Catholic Church as adults (anyone seven years of age or older) journey together in faith and share experiences while discerning Gods call. If interested in participating, please call the office. We will be happy to assist you on your journey.

DO YOU HAVE A CHILD, SEVEN YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, WHO HAS NOT YET BEEN BAPTIZED CATHOLIC?
Once a child reaches the age of reason (seven), the child is brought into the Church just as an adult isthrough the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Following this process of preparation which lasts about a year, the child is fully initiated into the Church at the Easter Vigil through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. In order to have a child baptized Catholic, at least one parent must be Catholic. If you are considering having your childage 7 or olderbecome Catholic, or if you have any questions, please contact Sister Marie at the parish office, 407.293.9556 ext. 121.

OFFICE HOURS: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-3:30pm MARRIAGE PREPARATION: Please contact the Church Office to schedule a meeting with Father Augustine. You need to allow six months for the preparation process and it would help us if you could obtain new baptism certificates before the meeting. We can also help with the convalidation (blessing) of a civil marriage and sometimes with the annulment of a previous marriage as long as the civil divorce is complete.

PRAY FOR J.A.M. MEM BERS MEMBERS

The mission of the Catholic HEART Workcamp is to revitalize communities and beautify homes for the elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford needed repairs. Our goal is to inspire participants to serve in their local communities. May they have a safe and grow-filled experience. (from Catholic HEART Workcamp Mission Statement)

INDEPENDENCE DAY NOVENA

As the United States approaches the Fourth of July Independence Day celebration, the organization Priests for Life has invited all believers to join them in saying the following prayer each day from June 26 through July 4. God our Father, your Son Jesus spoke to us a message of peace and taught us to live as brothers and sisters. His message took form in the vision of our Founding Fathers, as they fashioned a nation where all people might live as one. This message lives on in our midst as a task for us today and a promise for tomorrow. We thank you, Father, for your blessings in the past, and for all that, with your help, we must yet achieve. Bless our nation and bless each of us. As we celebrate our independence, may we extend its blessings to our youngest brothers and sisters, the children in the womb. Hasten the day when our nation will be a nation with liberty and justice, not just for some, but for all, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAY FOR OUR YOUNG CATHOLICS!

More than one million people are expected to participate in

World Youth Day events,

which begin

Tuesday, August 16,

and end

Sunday, August 21,

with an open-air Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI. At least 25,000 U.S. pilgrims will travel to the Spanish capital this summer for the event. Our Diocese has approximately 60 pilgrims, including Bishop Noonan, who will be making the journey. The pilgrimage will be led by the office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and the office of Vocations. A pilgrimage is truly a spiritual journey, rather than a vacation an opportunity to share your faith and to connect more deeply with Jesus Christ. It can be an awesome and life changing experience.
