Introduction
2.1 Audience
This guide is intended for Oracle employees, Oracle partners and Oracle Online DBA customers.

2.2

Objective
The primary objectives of this document are to inform customer regarding following subjects:

Prerequisites for setting up EM 10g monitoring Components that play a major role in EM grid monitoring Changes that interrupt EM Grid Monitoring Process flow for setting up the monitoring

2.3

What is EM Grid Monitoring

EM Grid Monitoring is an infrastructure used by OnlineDBA Service to monitor availability, performance and logs etc. of Oracle Database and other Oracle components at contracted customers location. It monitors Oracle Database, Listener, IAS, EBSO, Seibel, and other related components for basic service and critical issues based on pre-defined thresh holds. Any change in service status or whenever the thresh hold is exceeded an alert is generated in the form of an email/TAR to onlinedba team. Based on the type of the alert a pre-defined action is taken to resolve the issue. A thin client (Intelligent Agent) is installed on the server for monitoring. EM grid infrastructure situated in Oracle Network will register the components that need monitoring on each server at customer location. Intelligent agent will collect all the data required and post it to EM Grid. EM Grid will store the data in a repository and based on the thresh holds defined an alert is sent out.

3. Prerequisites for 10g Agent Installation

3.1 OS Username and group
OS Username and group needs to be created as follows:

Username: emdadm Group: dba Access to cron for user emdadm to schedule IA restart.

User emadm should be part of the same group as oracle users group. If e-Business Suite is installed on the target system this group should be same as apps owner.

3.2

D isk Space Requirement

The following mount point needs to be created. Mount point needs to be a logical mount point. This cannot be a softlink or NFS. Software can be staged in the same mount point. The mount point must be dedicated exclusively for the Oracle Intelligent Agent software and shall not be used for reading or writing by any other user or software in the system.

Mount Point name: /oem Required Space in /oem mount point: 10GB Software Stage Directory: /oem/stage

3.3 Requirement in /etc/hosts entry:

The hosts file should have the entries as follows: (For Unix OS: /etc/hosts For Windows OS: c:\winnt\system32\etc\hosts ) Require fully qualified name in the following format IP Address Fully Qualified Name of Host Short Name of Host

Example: if host name is prod and IP address is 10.1.1.2 and domain name is oracle.com then entry should be as follows: 10.1.1.2 prod.oracle.com prod

And add the following entry in /etc/hosts ohsidbaem.oracle.com

140.85.170.76

3.4 Softw are Requirement

All monitored hosts should have Perl installed Customers will stage EM Release 2 Mass Agent Deployment software at /oem/stage. This can be downloaded for respective operating system from OTN

3.4

OCCN Connectivity
All the hosts, which require monitoring through EM10G hosted at Oracle, must be connected through OCCN Network.

3.5

Ports Requirement:

4. Components play major role in EM grid monitoring

Grid monitoring infrastructure hosted at Oracle is used to monitor remote components at customers location. Continuity of the monitoring system depends on number of components, which is external to the infrastructure described below.

4.1

Firew all, N etw ork & Ports:

Any changes in Customers Firewall policy or Network, which impacts the defined connectivity through designated ports and host will interrupt the EM Grid Monitoring. Any such change would require a confirmation by Oracle after validation of the defined connectivity between EM Grid Infrastructure and customers host.

4.2

EM Intelligent Agent Service:

EM Intelligent Agent deployed at monitored host in customer location must be running irrespective of the availability of monitored components or services. Hence, to avail interrupted monitoring customer need to ensure that the Agent Software Location and running Agent Processes are not affected during all maintenance windows.

4.3

Host and Operating system:

Changes in host configuration e.g. hostname or IP Address impacts EM Grid Monitoring. Operating System upgrade, patches and similar changes may impact the monitoring. Before any such change Customer will initiate an impact analysis to be done by Oracle.

4.4

Other Changes:
Before any of the following or similar changes Customer will initiate an impact analysis to be done Oracle.

Intelligent Agent Software mount point full or not accessible Intelligent Agent mount point or Oracle Mount Point permission change OS TIMEZONE change Password changes or expiry of OS User: emdadm, Database User: dbsnmp and listener Password (if any) Database movement, Database Upgrade and Database Patches.

5. Process flow for setting up the monitoring

Start
Owner: Service Delivery Manager Process: Send latest version NCF to customer, Get it filled by customer and submit to GIT.

Owner: Service Delivery Manager Process: Coordinates between customer and GIT to establish connectivity.

Owner: Customer Process: Customer changes network & Firewall policy as per the OCCN requirement and allows network traffic through ports as per the EM Grid Monitoring section 3.4 Process: Customer provides OS user, mount point, and space as per 3.1, 3.2&3.3

Owner: Oracle Global IT Process: Ship VPNBox to Customer Location and Configure VPN Box to establish connectivity.

Owner: SDM/SDE Process: Create a SR for performing OCCN & EM Port connectivity testing by Online DBA.

Owner: Oracle Online DBA Process: Online DBA performs acceptability tests, validates traffic flow through EM Ports between OCCN and Customer.

Network and EM Connectivity test successful? Y

Owner: SDM or SDE Process: Create SR for installing Agent & Event setup by Online DBA.

Owner: Oracle Online DBA Process: Installs Intelligent Agent, Setup Monitoring, Test all the events Note: This activity takes 5 Days for each PROD environment. This does not include UDM.

End
