Vorwort
Das Saxophon ist ein noch relativ junges
Instrument. Es wurde in der Zeit von 1842-1846
von Adolphe Sax erfunden und entwickelt, und hat
sich mittlerweile vor allem im Jazz und in der
Popmusik einen festen Platz erobert. Aus diesem
Grund ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, wenn sich
die meisten Saxophonschulen und die Spielliteratur
überwiegend auf diesen musikalischen Bereich
beziehen. Dabei kann es in höchstem Maße reizvoll
klingen, auf dem Saxophon die Musik von Bach,
Telemann, Mozart, oder die eines anderen alten
Meisters zu spielen, die ja alle dieses Instrument
noch nicht kannten.
Wir haben etwa 400 alte Werke angespielt,
ausprobiert und transponiert um in diesem Buch
eine kleine Auswahl der (unserer Meinung nach)
schönsten Titel zusammenstellen zu können.
Dabei haben wir besonders auf folgende Dinge
geachtet: Die Stücke sollten einen starken
melodischen Charakter haben und auch schon ohne
Klavierbegleitung ansprechend klingen. Das macht
sie besonders für den Saxophon-Unterricht
geeignet, wo nicht immer ein Begleitpianist zur
Verfügung steht. Die leichteren Stücke sind für
Saxophon-Schüler nach etwa ein bis anderthalb
Jahren Unterricht spielbar, die schwierigeren
Stücke nach drei bis vier Jahren. Die Stücke sind in
ansteigendem Schwierigkeitsgrad angeordnet und
können als motivierendes Begleitmaterial parallel
zu jedem herkömmlichen Unterrichtswerk
herangezogen werden. Die Klavierbegleitungen
sind ab etwa vier Jahren Klavierunterricht spielbar.
Unsere Arbeit an Musikschulen hat gezeigt, dass
die Saxophon-Schüler meist in einem höheren Alter
mit dem Unterricht beginnen als die Klavierschüler.
Somit lassen sich im Idealfall an einer Musikschule
zwei Schüler der gleichen Altersstufe finden, die
gemeinsam mit diesem Material musizieren
können.
Bleibt uns nur noch, dazu viel Freude und Spaß zu
wünschen.

Preface
The saxophone is a relatively young instrument.
Invented and developed by Adolphe Sax in the years
1842-1846, it has meanwhile become firmly
established in music, especially in jazz and pop
music. For this reason, it is not surprising that most
saxophone methods and the playing scores refer
mainly to this field of music.
The sound of music by Bach, Telemann, Mozart or
other old masters who did not know this instrument,
played on the saxophone, can, however, be
extremely charming.
We have tried out and transposed about 400 old
works in order to be able to compile in this book a
small selection of the (at least in our opinion) most
beautiful titles, paying special attention to the
following points: The pieces should have a strong
melodic character and be pleasing to the ear even
without piano accompaniment. This is what makes
them particularly suitable for saxophone lessons in
which there is not always an accompanying pianist.
The less difficult pieces can be played by saxophone
students after about one or one and a half year of
saxophone lessons, the difficult pieces after three to
four years. The pieces in this book are arranged in
ascending order of difficulty and can be used as
motivating accompanying material in parallel with
any conventional teaching material.
The piano accompaniments can be played after
about four years of piano lessons. Our work at
music schools has shown that most saxophone
students begin to learn to play their instrument at
an older age than piano students. Thus, in ideal
circumstances, one may find two students of the
same age at the music school who can make music
together, using the present material.
