ENGINEERING METHODS APPLICATION

FOR ASSESSING THE RISK OF FIRE
ABSTRACT
Engineering method of fire risk assessment has been developed in order to provide a systematic assessment of the
risks of fire in the existing or newly constructed buildings. It is based on a combination of prevention, the probability of
occurrence and exposure to fire risks. In contrast to laws, technical regulations and standards in construction, which mainly aim
to provide a safe evacuation of the object user, the method allows the optimal design of fire protection facilities, and any content
of their activities that takes place in them, on technically and economically justified level.
In determining the risk of fire, the systematic evaluation of all the given factors is represented, which can be
presented as a thorough description of positive and negative element characteristics that affect the risk. As a final result we get a
numeric value. The method cannot be used for technical and technological facilities and the open-type installations. The method
is designed so that users first determine the risk of fire for the facility and its contents, and then verify the preventive measures
for the safety of users and activities which is a prerequisite for determining the optimal concept of fire protection.
The method uses the basic mathematical models of fire and has the same access as well as many other tools for risk
assessment. Starting from a limited number of fire scenarios, the method includes predicting fire occurrence, the degree of
exposure to the facility and its contents and determines the consequences of risk.
