Indirekte Rede wird benutzt, um wiederzugeben, was wer (wann und wo) gesagt hat. Beispiel:

Sollte jetzt aber der Einleitungssatz in einer Vergangenheitsform stehen, muss auch die indirekte Rede in die Vergangenheit gepackt werden mit dem sogenannten Backshift Direct She said (Einleitungssatz) , I am reading.
