Full-time PhD student position: MEMS tuneable metamaterials for radar and telecom applications
keywords: RF/microwave microsystems, RF MEMS, metamaterials
The Microsystem Technology Lab at the School of Electrical Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, is carrying out research work in the field of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS). The group is simulating and designing microsystems, fabricating them in the KTH clean-room, and evaluating and characterizing the devices. Our working environment is characterized by our interdisciplinarity and by our internationally competitive research activities. We have research collaborations with national and international research groups at universities and companies. RF and microwave MEMS are all microsystems interacting with electrical signals, by switching, tuneing, filtering, modulating, matching. RF MEMS devices, including microswitches, tuneable capacitors, and micromechanical electroacoustic resonators, are characterized b their near ideal signal performance and therefore of outmost interest in future microwave applications, including radar and telecom. Metamaterials are artificial structures which, by their special geometry, create surface properties which are not existing in nature. The Microsystem Technology Lab is, together with academic and industrial research partners in Finland and France, the first group in the world which is utilizing MEMS technology to create tuneable metamaterials, with special focus on beam steering applications for automotive radar (77 GHz). Minimum qualifications: - MSc degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or equivalent - basic knowledge in microsystem technology and/or microwave engineering Preferred additional qualifications: - experience in microsystems (MEMS) design, clean-room fabrication and device evaluation - experience in RF/microwave design and device characterization KTH aims to employ a diversity of talented people and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the university, especially concerning its gender structure.

Required Qualifications
