History of Escorts Group

Escorts Ltd began local manufacture of Ford tractors in 1971 in collaboration with Ford, UK and total production climbed steadily to 33,000 in 1975 reaching 71,000 by 1980. Ford (Ford - New Holland) was sold in 1992. Ford Motor Company proper quit the tractors business, but the name was allowed to continue as per agreement until 2000, when Escorts relabeled its Ford models under the Escort brand. Escort manufactures produces tractors in the 27-75 HP range and has already sold over 6 lac tractors. Its tractors are marketed under three brand names, Escort, Powertrac and Farmtrac.

My visit to Escorts Agri Machinery Group Assembly Plant Faridabad

I made my debut visit to Escorts Agri Machinery Group Assembly Plant at Faridabad in the outskirts of Faridabad district, Haryana. The trip was on 10th of September 2010. We left our college campus in a bus in the morning at 10:45 AM sharp. The plant was about 45 Km away from our college. It took us about couple and half hours to reach there. The plant is built in the Faridabad industrial area where a lot of other industries are also located. After reaching the plant we went to the dining hall, where we were served with delicious lunch. After having our lunch, at sharp 2:30 PM we were addressed by the General Secretary of the plant. And thereafter we started our guided industrial visit under the guidance of _______________________________. He gave us a brief idea about the structure of the whole plant and its various production units. He also made us aware about certain rules and regulations which were about to be followed by us during the whole course of our visit within the different production and testing units of the plant. They were:

Photography was strictly prohibited inside the plant. We were advised to walk within the Yellow line boundary because of the safety measures.

We were not allowed to touch the machinery. We were not allowed to talk much with the workers so they dont get distracted.

In total there were five production units visited by us, which are as follows:

Engine Production Unit. Rare Axle Production Unit Paint Shop Transmission Production Unit Tractor Production Unit

We started our visit by visiting the Engine Production Unit where we learned how the manufacturing of an efficient engine takes place after passing through various production levels. Then we walked towards the Rare Axle Production unit where we gained the knowledge of assembling of the different parts of the Rare Axle including the manufacturing of the machinery fans. Next we entered the paint shop unit where we saw how the different parts of a tractor are painted maintaining different pressure levels. After that we headed towards the Transmission Production Unit which made us aware about the manufacturing and assembling of numerous machinery parts. Our final stop was the Tractor Production Unit where we keenly observed the assembly of the tractor parts in toto.

The Process

OVERVIEW: MANUFACTURING
Escorts assembly plant is divided into three major assembly product units:

i)

Engine Product Unit : There an assembly activity of Engine, Transmission and Tractor has been carried out. In the layout plant functions used to perform through their different sections like block loading, piston fitment, fuel injection pump fitment, gear fitment, prestrocke, oil pan fitment and many more. Rear Axle Product Unit Assembly: There in the trump housing cell which is central housing area, creates machinery fan. They are having 5s activity: a) Sporting b) Systematic c) Shine d) Standardise- teamwork, quality, saving, customer satisfaction. e) Self Displine and sustain.

Then they also having Engine Shop have State of the Art testing facilities that make engines to be tested in the Engine Test House. For this information summary about every engine and check on various parameters like performance checks which includes fuel delivery, oil q press, RPM. Then they have general testing and other parameters on which audit points were given to judge the quality of an engine. iii) Paint Assembly: Tractor Assembly Plant has State of the Art Paint Shop that has CED paint shop facilities.

Conclusion
Around about 5 PM we completed our visit and boarded our bus for return. In short the trip was fun, exciting, informative and very useful. I surely would love to go for such trips in future which I am anticipating highly to happen.
