JSSCMS, SJCE Mysore INDUSTRY PROFILE Indian hotel industry- A Brief Introduction Over the last decade and half the mad rush to India for business opportunities h as intensified and elevated room rates and occupancy levels in India. Even budge t hotels are charging USD 250 per day. The successful growth story of 'Hotel Ind ustry in India' seconds only to China in Asia Pacific. 'Hotels in India' have su pply of 110,000 rooms. According to the tourism ministry, 4.4 million tourists v isited India last year and at current trend, demand will soar to 10 million in 2 010 to accommodate 350 million domestic travelers. 'Hotels in India' has a short age of 150,000 rooms fueling hotel room rates across India. With tremendous pull of opportunity, India is a destination for hotel chains looking for growth. The World Travel and Tourism Council, India, data says, India ranks 18th in busines s travel and will be among the top 5 in this decade. Sources estimate, demand is going to exceed supply by at least 100% over the next 2 years. Five-star hotels in metro cities allot same room, more than once a day to different guests, rece iving almost 24-hour rates from both guests against 6-8 hours usage. With demand -supply disparity, 'Hotel India' room rates are most likely to rise 25% annually and occupancy to rise by 80%, over the next two years. 'Hotel Industry in India ' is eroding its competitiveness as a cost effective destination. However, the r ating on the 'Indian Hotels' is bullish. 'India Hotel Industry' is adding about 60,000 quality rooms, currently in different stages of planning and development and should be ready by 2012. MNC Hotel Industry giants are flocking India and fo rging Joint Ventures to earn their share of pie in the race. Government has appr oved 300 hotel projects, nearly half of which are in the luxury range. Sources s aid, the manpower requirements of the hotel industry will increase from 7 millio n in 2002 to 15 million by 2010. Resorts and spa Due to changing scenario of hotel and hospitality sectors business makers are tr ying to find different services and products to attract customers, one being the combination of resorts and spa which is taking a leap forward step attracting c ustomers A resort can be a large hotel with many facilities. The resort industry is divided into three major categories: hotels in resort destinations, full-ser vice hotels in resort destinations, and selfsufficient destination resorts.

You will also find some wonderful fully ref reshing destinations spas in the mountains and enticing resorts spas in India. I ndian spa Industry is still in infancy stage. Medical Spa trend, which is sweepi ng North America and Europe today, has no presence in Indian soil. Government of India has no Policy specific to Spa Industry. However, one of the very centers of Tourism in India, Kerala Tourism (remember 'God's Own Country' campaign) has introduced 'Green Leaf' status for distinguished Ayurveda Resorts in Kerala to g uide the tourists. About the company Shanthi enterprises Shanthi enterprises was started 15 years ago with different businesses. They als o started with a budget hotel named as siddhartha hotel under the banner siddhart ha group of hotel and slowly growing their chains in deluxe and executive hotels in southern part of India and Singapore. This group was started and owned by sin gle owner MR. Giri Naidu a resident of Mysore. Last five years they have been st arting a chain of resorts and spa called Wind flower they have used its name as bl anket having started many resorts and spa in bandipur, coorg, Pondicherry, vythi ri, shanthi enterprises also have also set a bench mark in ice cream industry wi th joy ice creams and a pizza centre called U.S. pizza. They have 39 rooms for different classes ranging from deluxe called as wind flow er apartments, executive class know as wind flower studio, club class as wind fl ower suit and wind flower villa. Charging rupees: 4500, 5500, 7200 and 9900 resp ectively. All The rooms offers different products and services like rain shower, Balinese interiors, plunge pool in villa, rain shower, private sit out and orie ntal interiors in club class, huge shower cubes twin beds, open shower will sure ly delight everyone. Few of them are Panchakarma detoxification p rogram, water Healing therapy kerela Ayurveda massages etc. therapist are even s end to Thailand and different part of the countries to improve their skills and learn new methods. Different people take up different therapies according to the ir necesseity. Restaurant: Exotic and authentic. Ayurveda food is served hot at wind flowers. Major activity of finan ce, marketing, human resource and operations have been concentrated in the main office in order to felicitate easy accountability and foreseeing growth prospect . Wind flowers offers employment for 150 full timers in different departments, a nd 50 plus depending on job requirements on contract basis. Ashwath rao the gene ral manager makes sure everything goes on schedule. The check in and checkout ha ppens at 12 noon.

They have a simple policy that is Give them a w arm welcome make them happy and keep reminding them. They have 4 people at the f ront office and they always make sure they have a person on the front desk. HOUSE KEEPING DEPARTMENT: The House Keeping Department is One of the Most Important Department in the Hote l. It is the Cleanliness Pillar. Everything must be kept Neat, Clean and in Hygi enic way. It involves cleaning the Premises of the Property. Ms Divya a professi onal from Bangalore takes care of the entire wind flowers Groups, she works on t he contract basics for the company. Food and beverages service department : This Department performs the Task of Arranging Tables, Chairs Decorations and mo st important is serving the Food and Beverages to the Guests. All these people a re trained before they are put in to work to ensure quality of service and stand ards are maintained. Accounts maintenance departments: As the head office takes care of all the major financial transactions, investmen ts only the day to day account is maintained by a small group of accountants in wind flowers mysore. There is 3 subordinates and one super ordinate constantly o ver viewed by Ashwath rao, and taking assistances from Bangalore head office. TAXATION STRUCTURE: Restaurant Taxes: 12.5%. Management feels keeping separate departments for marketing in all wind flowers will shoot up the marketing expenditure and also they will not be able to maint ain a uniform marketing strategy. SECURITY DEPARTMENT: Security Records the Date, Time and Outline of all the Employees, Visitors and W ho Ever Comes in the Hotel, Details are recorded. Security plays a very Importan t Role for the Safety of the Guests. It is out sourced to a local security agenc y. Their job is to maintain strict code of conducts maintain CCTV and its record s. HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT: Human Resource Department is One of the Most Important Department in an Organiza tion, as it deals with Most Valuable assets in the Organization. There is one HR manager in the wind flowers Mysore who makes there is right employee at the rig ht time doing right job. She also was assigned the job of public relations. The main recruiting was done by head office.

Mysore being one of the most tourist destinations in both India and wo rld gives a bigger competitive advantage to the resorts. Mysore offers a wide ra nge of places having historical importance and many cynic beauties, few places a re Mysore palace, zoological gardens, bird sanctuary in shrirangapatna, madikeri , elephant etc. they also have the advantage of Mysore growing in terms of econo my through growths of information technology industries. Customers come to spend their weekends peacefully from all the office and day to day tensions is also b ecoming a big fat list for the resort. My guide and front desk manager also ment ioned that all their rooms run full on capacity on all weekends and maintain 80 % occupancy rate on other days. Guests book rooms prior a month which shows a po sitive signage. Prices are according to the services they offer and usually head office set the prices which are competitive in the market.mr. Nilesh mentioned that they do not have potential competitors in the market but local players such as silent shores, star hotels get guests leaked out of business for certain rea sons. World class spa Emerge also plays a vital role getting guests to the hotel. Marketing techniques of wind flowers resorts and spa. The major marketing strategy revolves around catching travel agents and agency a nd convincing them to get customers to wind flowers around the world. This is a major way by which wind flowers get their customers from around the world. Agent s are giving certain commission or some advantage and create a network. Another important strategy is wind flowers marketing executive travel to different hotel exhibitions to promote the product. They also regularly advertise on national n ews paper, magazines like traveler, out loot, world sport, TV shows. Etc. They a lso advertise on bill boards on national and state highways. But the major reten tion of customers happens from a good service they provide and the positive word of mouth they get.
