We Are the Margin of Victory

We are young workers, young families, college and high school students ages 14 to 35. OCYD is committed to establishing a bloc of young voters who will elect Democrats for an entire generation.

As the official voice for young people in the Democratic Party of Orange County, OCYD is a network of Young Democrat activists that are helping to provide a Democratic presence throughout Orange County

communities, at colleges and high school campuses.

We Take Action for OC

Orange County Young Democrats are the boots on the ground that make political actions happen. We pull our campaigning ability from a network of statewide young professionals, college and high school students. Political Action: 2010 California Young Democrats Project of the Year: OCYD organized a two day political action contacting more than 1,000 young voters in youth dense precincts around Cal State Fullerton, encouraging them to vote for Democrats all the way down the ticket. OCYD went door to door in the very places where young Democrats live and hang out, places that are too often ignored by traditional campaigns. Leadership: Orange County Young Democrats were the first Young Democrat chapter in California to hire a paid executive director, Doug Arsenault (top), who successfully managed OCYDs $15,000 GOTV program reaching 10,000 voters in the final weeks of the 2010 election. Visibility: Orange County Young Democrats demand attention. This year OCYD chartered a bus, booked hotel rooms, and traveled to CA Democratic State Convention with over 30 young volunteers to bring statewide attention to the struggle of Costa Mesa public union workers. Utilizing social media strategies and traditional visibility tactics, OCYD was able to secure over 900 signatures for the Repair Costa Mesa campaign in just two days. Influence: Orange County Young Democrat Members serve in a variety of statewide positions. Lauren Lee, (middle) is California College Democrats President. OCYD members from Beckman High school hold a majority of seats on California High School Democrats executive board. Katherine Ready (bottom), is Regional Director for Inland Empire and Orange County Young Democrats. Tim Steed (next page), is recognized as 2011 California Young Democrats Man of the Year and Danielle Butterfield is the 2011 California College Democrats Woman of the Year.

Were Ready for 2012

Orange County Young Democrats know what it takes to win in 2012. Since the early 1990s, OCYD has been actively engaged in grooming, funding, and electing Democrats throughout Orange County. In 2003 Young Democrats of America developed a peer to peer campaign model which has been implemented by OCYD to compile extensive volunteer lists, voter data, legislative research and strategies to maximize the leverage and effectiveness of our organization. Orange County Young Democrats are in full stride in 2011. We are focused on the 2012 election. Were excited to mobilize our youth network because when we vote, Democrats win! Changing Orange County Orange County is changing. OCYD is monitoring shifting voter registration trends and impending Congressional redistricting. Were ready to seize political opportunities throughout OC. Obama at the Top Orange County Young Democrats are harnessing the energy of Obamas 2012 reelection campaign. Working with partners like CA College Democrats and local college chapters OCYD is ready to turn out the youth vote. Issue Based Campaigns Young Democrats identify with issues. OCYD uses a variety of communications tools and tactics, including our award winning social media team, to identify, engage, activate, and retain publics as voters, OCYD members, and activists. Winning Infrastructure OCYD is increasing communications and tactical capacity. We are building our membership, strengthening alliances, integrating technology and securing finances to position Orange County Young Democrats as a catalyst for progressive action in Orange County.
