1. Find as many solutions as possible of the following equations 2x + y = 4 Letting x =1 , gives 2 (1) + y = 4 2+y=4 y=2 Letting x = 1 and y = 2, gives 2 (1) + 2 = 4 4 = 4 (true) Apparently x = 1 and y = 2 form a solution to 2x + y = 4 Letting y = 4, gives 2x + 4 = 4 2x = 0 x =0 Letting x = 0 and y = 4, 2 (0) + 4 = 4 0+4 =4 4 = 4 (true) gives

c. The teacher explains about System of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SLETV) with example. Suppose two equations x + y = 5 and 2x y = 4 are given, substitusing 3 for x and 2 for y into both equations gives us : x+y=5 2x y = 2 (3) 2 = 4 wich is a true statement wich is a truestatement

As the two equations x + 2y = 8 and 2x + 3y = 13 have a common solutions x = 2 and y = 3 , both equations are saidto form a system of Linear with Two Variables. d. The teacher asks student to do exercise number 1a and 1b in exercise 2.2.

e. The teacher asks another student to write his answer in white board. f. The teacher asks student to do in the worksheet 2.1 in pair. g. The teacher observes the discussion proces guide and help them a needed. h. SYSTEM OF LINEAR EQUATIONS WITH TWO VARIABLES (SLETVS) A. Linear Equations with Two Variables (LETV). 1. Understanding Linear Equations with Two Variables. Consides the equations 3x +2y = 6. This equations involves two varibles, x and y, where each variable is raised to its first power. Equations such as 3x + 2y = 6 are called Linear Equations with Two V ariables. Another example of linear equations with Two Variables is begin below. a. b. x + y =0 2p 3q+12 = 0

2. The Solution of Linear Equations with Two Variables (LETV). Suppose we are given the equations 2x + 2y = 4. How should we solve it? Lacking qa proper way, let us make trial of solving it by substitusing a value for variable x or y as foolow. Letting x =1 , gives 2 (1) + y = 4 2+y=4 y=2 Letting x = 1 and y = 2, gives 2 (1) + 2 = 4 4 = 4 (true) Apparently x = 1 and y = 2 form a solution to 2x + y = 4 Letting y = 4, gives 2x + 4 = 4 2x = 0 x =0

 Letting x = 0 and y = 4, gives 2 (0) + 4 = 4 0+4 =4 4 = 4 (true) Apparently, x = 0 and y = 4 also form a solution to 2x + y = 4

B. System of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SLETV). 1. Understanding of Linear Equations with Two Variables (SLETV). Suppose two equations x + y = 5 and 2x y = 4 are given, substitusing 3 for x and 2 for y into both equations gives us : x+y=5 2x y = 2 (3) 2 = 4 wich is a true statement wich is a truestatement

Apporently the substition opf x = 3 and y = 2 x + y = 5 and 2x y = 4 satisfies both equations simulataneously. Both equations are said to have the same solution, wich is pair of values, x = 3 and y = 2. Here x + y = 5 and 2x y = 4 form a system of a linear equations with two Variables ( SLETV ) as they have the same solution. A system of Linear Equatin with Two Variables (SLETV) can be expressed in various forms and symbol : a. x = 2y and 3x + y = 14. b. a + b 2= 0 and 4a b = 14 A system of Linear Equations with Two Variables ( SLETV) x and y is awritten as : a1 x + b1 y =c1 and a2 x +b2 y = c2 where a1 ,a2 , b1 , and b2 are real number.

2. The Diference Between a Linear Equations with Two Variables and a System of Linear Equations with Two Variables. One solving LETV, we concluded that a Linear Equations with Two Variables (LETV) has an infinite number of solutions on the contraty, most systems of linear equations with Two Variables (SLETV) encountered have only pair of values as their solution.

LETV is an independent equation which means that the solution to a LETV is independent on their LETVs while a SLETV consisting of two related LETVs has one or more solutions wich must simultaneously satisfy both LETVs. 3. Solving for avariable in term of another in the following equations. Example : Solve for x involved in the following equation 1. x + a = 4a x = 4a a x = 3a

Student Worksheet 2.1

GROUP 1.

CLASS

Tell the difference between the following equations x + 2y = 8 x + y = 7 and 2x + 3y = 13

Key of Worksheet. i. The equation x + y = 7 has an infinite number of solutions, among another : x = 0 and y = 7, x = 1 and y = 2 and y =5 , x= 3 and y = 4 etc The equation x + y = 7 is a Linear Equations with Two Variables. ii. Substitusing 2 for x and 3 for y into both equatio x + 2y = 8 and 2x + 2y = 13 yields : x + 2y = 2 + 2 (3) =2+6 = 8 (true) 2x + 2y = 2 (2) + 3 (3) =4+9 = 13 (true). As the two equations x + 2y = 8 and 2x + 3y = 13 have a common solutions x = 2 and y = 3 , both equations are saidto form a system of Linear with Two Variables.

Exercise 2.2 1. Solve for x and y involved in the following equations? a. x + 3a = 5a b. 4p 2x = 10p c. 3y + 2b = 14b d. 8a + 2y = 6a

Key of Exercise 2. 2 a. x + 3a = 5a x = 5a 2a x = 23

b. 4p 2x = 10p -2x = 10p 4p -2x =6p x = x = -3p

c. 3y + 2b = 14b 3y = 14b -2b 3y = 12b y = y = 4b

d. 8a + 2y = 6a 2y = 6a -8a 2y = -2a y = y = -a
