PRESENTED BY A PLACE TO BELONG, a Spiritus Mental Health Network The Recovery Day will consider more deeply the

realities and practices of recovery in mental health. The day will consider questions like: What is meant by recovery in mental health? Can this be a transforming process? How do we participate with this process in our own lives? How do we support and encourage others in their recovery? How can mental health services support our journey of recovery and transformation?

This event will be relevant for anyone interested in learning about well being and growing through mental health challenges. It will be beneficial to people living with a mental health difficulty, their families and those who stand alongside them, as well as workers in the mental health sector.

Helen Glover Kick starting recovery by engaging our X factor

Have you ever wondered why, given the same circumstances, one person overcomes and thrives beyond the impacts of a mental illness whilst another surrenders to it. What is different to make this happen? Is it chance, luck, life circumstances, not enough support, too much support? Or is it something more intrinsic - something that lies within us all that either fights or falters. This address aims to explore these questions more deeply and look at what people with a lived experience of recovery highlight as their X factor in their recovery journey. Helen Glover uses her professional and lived experience of mental illness to expand and challenge the concepts of recovery within mental health service delivery. Helen has spoken and lectured internationally on the challenges and opportunities of provision and development of support and the environment needed to create and sustain individuals on a journey of recovery.

We would like be part of a conversation with you, about connections; in families, between families and with people who are part of market pricing relationships. We have both noticed that the journey of recovery challenges us towards a process of personal clarity and "wisdom". We have noticed that even if the symptoms reoccur, the clarity and the wisdom gained often enables the families to operate in a loving and compassionate way. We have learned a great deal from people who have negotiated this "wonderful" opportunity. We also suspect that the "wisdom" is a generic kind of wisdom. It's not just good for "coping with a person with schizophrenia, it's also good for helping to live a richer and more wonderful life.

8. Recovery: Transforming the Mental Health Service Delivery System in Queensland - Ivan Frkovic
The history of mental health reform in Queensland identifies critical stages of change, including repeated references to recovery oriented services and approaches. However only recently has the recovery approach gained some traction both in the public and non-government sectors in Queensland as a result of influences at the policy, funding, leadership, management, practice, and consumer and carer engagement levels. This traction is now being further strengthened through the enhanced investment in the non-government community sector, particularly consumer operated services, which aim to support people with mental illness to live fully and meaningful lives in the community. How far have we come and far have we got to go are fundamental questions for all those accessing mental health services and those working in the mental health system. 9. Using the arts to uncover your voice Damien Le Goullen The arts have a long association with mental health as a therapy. In recent times art has been used as an agent of change in communities to promote a healthy social environment. This workshop will give you an opportunity to contribute to this discussion as well as explore multimedia arts opportunities. Do you find words to express the depths of your feelings? Does a note strike a chord inside you? Do you let it all out on canvas? This workshop will give you an opportunity to respond to the Recovery Day themes by preparing artwork, music or video which you can post to the web.

Please choose a first and second preference for the afternoon workshop. We will endeavour to give you your first preference but places are limited in each workshop. Please list your preferences for both morning & afternoon workshops on the registration form.
