Unit Topic: Soccer (Basic Passing and Receiving)

Lesson: #1 of 4 - Dry Weather Class Size: 40 Students Duration: 60 minutes Venue: School Field Resources: 20 bibs, 16 big cones, 24 small cones, 35 markers (including 3 extras) and 21 balls (including 1 extra) Specific Instructional Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. Execute accurate and proper passing, using the inside of the foot. 2. Control the ball from a given pass; putting the ball to a stop either by stepping on it or cushioning it using the inside of the foot. 3. Demonstrate fairplay and sportspersonship by playing to the rules set by the teacher. 4. Demonstrate ability to cooperate and communicate with teammates in a game setting.

Introduction, setting of ground rules and Warmup 2 students to a ball, occupying of the field. On whistle, walk around and pass the ball to partner by rolling. On another whistle, jog instead of walk. Alternate this for about 3minutes

4v4 invasion game. Objective: Roll the ball through the goalpoast to score. Rules: Pass the ball using hands, below waist level. No goalkeeper. No dribbling. No snatching, only interception is allowed. Cannot use the feet. 4v4 4v4

Activity 2 Same game but passing with legs. No usage of hands. Ball is to be kept below waist level.

Go into Activity 2 on teachers command. Same setup as Activity 1

Gather for demonstration. Students will work in their respective 4v4 playing area (as of Activity 1). Work in pairs (5-7m apart).

Activity 4 On the move passing.

Teacher will demonstrate the drill to two groups of students simultaneously. After which, the rest of the students will follow suit. Each pair of student will take turns to run the breadth and pass the ball while on the move. Gather for demonstration.

Activity 5 Receiving practice in pairs. 1. Roll the ball to partner and try stepping 2. Give a slight bounce to the rolling ball and try receiving the ball by cushioning. 3. Finally, pass the ball to each other and try ` receiving using appropriate techniques. Activity 6 4 students to a ball. Focus on passing and receiving. 3 students spread around the designated playing space.

Students will work in their respective 4v4 playing area (as of Activity 1). Work in pairs progressively to refine their receiving technique.

Students will work in their groups of 4, occupying one half of their 4v4 playing area (as of Activity 1).

Try to be deceptive when making the pass. Use eyes, head, shoulders and/or feet to fake the defender.

One defender in the middle, cannot tackle but can try to intercept the pass.

On whistle, rotate the defender. Activity 7 4v4 game (Same as Activity 2)

Same setup as Activity 1.

Q: Which part of the foot should you use to accomplish the most accurate short pass? A: Inside of the foot (instep) Q: Describe 2 ways to stop the ball. A: Step or cushion. Q: How do you make passing more effective in games? A: Look at the player before executing the pass. Pass slightly ahead of the receiver. Move to space immediately after passing. Call out for the ball when you are in a good position to receive the ball.
