You have been invited to present (A) a paper, and (B) an oral presentation entitled Oral icati i E li : Forms, Functions, and Strate ies to a group of English C language instructors at a local college/universit Your oral presentation must be based on the content of your paper that will be distributed earlier. Do the following to complete this assignment: (A) Use the following ideas in the introduction of your paper entitled Oral Communication in English: Forms, Functions, and Strategies in the Malaysian Context. Remember to use your own words as far as possible and add any other relevant ideas. Being able to communicate orally in English in a wide variety of social contexts is one of the most important skills that we may have acquired or are in the process of acquiring. We may use this way of communicating through language in several forms depending upon our communication needs in particular situations. Intrapersonal communication occurs more or less continuously within ourselves, and we use it to think, to reason, to solve problems, etc. We also need to engage in interpersonal communication, small group communication, and public communication, among others, to satisfy our communication needs in a range of other situations/contexts. Prepare 12 -15 MS PowerPoint slides based on the content of your paper for a 10 minute talk titled Oral Communication in English: Forms, Functions, and Strategies in the Malaysian Context. 1) Use phrases rather than whole sentences to write the text of your slides. Use numbered/bulleted lists to organise and present main/supporting ideas on a given slide. Make your slides visually interesting by using suitable colours for the background and embedded symbols and pictures as appropriate. (10 marks) [Total 30 marks]

The Internet is a good source but ensure that the web sites you refer to are reliable sources of information such as Wikipedia and related web sites as well as academic sites e.g. those with an ac.uk or .edu extension. Use figures and pictures to better explain concepts and models of oral/speech communication. Remember to document and cite your sources consistently in your written paper. Avoid plagiarism. If in doubt, ask your tutor. Ask your tutor to guide you. S/he will use the marking scheme/guidelines for the award of marks to help you.
