Applies To: Windows | Windows 7 | System Repair and Recovery

Celdur

Hello. I have installed MS Windows 7 x64 Home Permium on my new PC and after few days I have a strange problem with explorer.exe I don't know why but explorer is very often shuts down with no reason. Sometimes it's a few times in a raw. Even when I click on something with right mouse button. My PC specs: (Phenom II X4 955, DDR3 1600Mhz, MA770T-UD3P, ATI 4870, OCZ 550W.. etc) In my journal event i can read something like that: Application that gives error is : C:\Windows\explorer.exe Module that makes this error is C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll or Module that makes this error is also C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\msvcrt.dll Can I do with that something? What are these errors anyway.. It is realy fantastic to have these problems on the new brand OS

Hi Celdur, Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forum. I would suggest you to perform SFC scan. 1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow 2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER: SFC /scannow A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'. Be patient because the scan may take some time 3. If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue 4. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations" 5. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 if the above steps fail I would suggest you to perform malware scan. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistasecurity/thread/ba80504b-61f1-4d71-960fb561798b7b42 If the above steps will fail, I would suggest you to run Microsoft security essentials, the following link will help you to download and install. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ Hope this helps. My explorer hangs: the computer becomes totally useless, because I cannot switch between windows. After it hangs for an exceedingly long time, explorer crashes. The computer also occasionally wakes up from sleep by itself, even though I have turned that option off. I have done all of what was previously suggested: SFC, malware scan, security essentials. I also uninstalled and reinstalled a new virus scanner as well. Nothing comes up. I am also running MS Windows 7 x64 Home Permium. My specs are: eMachines E627, athlon TF-20 1.6GHZ, 2GB ram.

The reason why your system hangs is because Windows 7 x64 needs a minimum of 2gb ram just to run. It uses 1GB to run and keeps 500mb - 1GB ram in reserve. You need at least 3 GB ram to run any other programs on the system. The processor looks to be a single core 64 bit? You need at least a AMD ATHLON dual core 64 bit processor. Hope this helps you out. madmonk

Thanks Madmonk, Are you saying that even if I update the system to say 4gb it won't work right because it is a single core? TA

Hi Vijay, I've been also facing issues with explorer.exe. Everytime, I restart my windows 7 machine, I need to start this (explorer.exe) from task manager. I tried your above suggestion with the hope that it will repair explorer.exe, however, issue still persist. In the above test, my system came out clean ================================================== C:\Windows\system32>SFC /scannow Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. Beginning verification phase of system scan. Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations. ================================================== I did restart the machine after the scan. RAM: 2GB SYSTEM TYPE: 32 bit OS Windows 7 Please advice. Regards, Jatin
