INTERVIEW QUESTIONS 1.

INTRODUCTION: The candidate shall be required to introduce himself/herself, stating clearly academic background, career objectives and goals. (20mks) 2. TEST OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY: This aspect seeks to appraise the candidate s understanding of the business of construction and other related fields. Questions such as or as outlined below may be asked: y What is your general view regarding how construction activities are carried out in Nigeria? y What standards are available and currently used in design and construction? y Are these standards strickly adhered to? y What is your view regarding current spate of building collapse in the country. (10mks) 3. TEST OF CONDIDATE S TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE: Here, we may seek to examine the technical know-how of the candidate as regards technicalities related to civil construction. The following questions may be used as a guide: BUILDING CONSTRUCTION y Can you explain the various components of a building? y What are the different types of foundation systems currently in use? y What foundation type would you recommend in an area with black cotton or expansive soil and why? y What are the possible causes of building failures and how would you guard against them during construction.

y Can you quickly describe this drawing (a sample should be handed over to the candidate) y Can you explain the processes of concrete mix design? y What is the standard length of reinforcements available and what are the different sizes? (10mks) ROAD & DRAINAGE CONSTRUCTION y List and explain the different types of pavement in use y Name the various layers in a flexible pavement and their relative sizes. y What is the recommended range of temperature when laying asphaltic concrete? y What are the various causes of road failure? y How would you remedy non-adhesion between bituminous tack coat and base course surface? y How many types of drainage systems are you familiar with? y What type of drainage would you recommend for high volume flow? (10mks) 4. TROUBLE SHOOTING DURING AND AFTER BUILDING CONSTRUCTION: Here, the interviewer may want to examine the candidate s ability to fully apprehend and proffer solutions during building construction. The following questions may serve as guides: y How would deal with water-logged trench foundation during construction? y How would you protect foundation trench walls against collapse, in event that an unstable soil is encountered? y Briefly describe the processes of mending cracks during construction. y How would deal with varying ground levels during construction? y How would you guide against varying concrete mixes. (20mks)

PROJECT STATUS REPORT: The candidate s ability to report or write project progress report shall be assessed by way of asking such questions as: y What do you understand by the term Project Status or Progress Report y What are the different components of Project Status Report (10mks) 6. PERSONEL AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT ON SITE: The candidate s ability to properly co-ordinate site activities, assign responsibility and manage conflict shall be assessed (10mks) 7.
